Measure the endfload while installed, use a dial gauge down the hole and screw a stud in to push/pull it in & out.
Then, remove the dizzy mounting flange casting, put in a lathe and machine (endfload-.005") from under the head. Refit and check endfloat.
Don't go below .004" clearance, you need room for shaft expansion and an oil film.
