I know a bloke (looks just like you :P) who has a Weber box in, and then tried to fit one of these manifolds.. and it didn't...
Did you ever find out why?

All finished, here's how the HIF one looks sitting on a 1293A+...

So was the Weber box a bit high then, I'm surprised it hit it.

OK gang, so if an HIF44 is bigger and uglier and dearer than an HS6, why is it better...??

Do tell.....

Because it has a floating needle, a bi-metal strip to upset the mixture, more vacuum ports to leak, a choke devise with O-rings that are allergic to petrol...

Oh, and the one on my car is controled by a computer made by Lucas.

Hey Doc

How good are these manifolds. I may look at getting one for my 1380 then doing the mods to make it fit with a HIF44 Carb. I have a 1970 Body with the cut out for the centre speed. What mods would need to be done to make it fit tho.

These are the best single SU manifolds ever, for power.
For HP and torque comparisons on a 1098 built by Graham, see here- scroll down to table 3.
http://www.minimania.com/web/DisplayID/ ... ticleV.cfm

When I ran my 1412 stroker (RE13 cam, Vizarded head, Corolla 1.46:1 rockers) on GR's engine dyno, we got 113.6HP at 6500 rpm with a single HS6.
So, for fun I took it off and bolted my 45DHLA Dellorto on, 38mm chokes, big ported Redline 3005 manifold.
We then got max 114HP at 6500, but the SU on GR 7" manifold killed the Dellorto for torque all the way up.
That's why I'm putting it in the wife's van with an HS6...

Here's the dyno sheet-

To see how it fits in an early car with HIF44, see this page of Doogie's thread- http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... 5&start=45
An HS6 would need a little less surgery.

Thanks for the info. I do not like the thought of cutting the fire wall. I Will wait for you photos of the finished angle with the HIF and see if I can get away with that instead. I do have the offsett K&N Filter Setup tho.

The pics I did on previous page with the 17.5° flange angle (for an HIF44) are final, that manifold is now on its way to Portugal.
The other GR manifold I am milling now will be 10° for my HS6, but it won't suit the HIF.

If you have a rodchange box, you could fit adjustable steady bars and tilt the motor forward a touch....

2nd manifold pics, 10° flange, with HS6.

It just misses, but is too close for use with a rodchange box, so I'll thump the firewall a bit before we paint it.

Hi Kev

It answer your question why is a HIF44 is so good.

They are not, tempromental bloody things in my opnion.

Consider this: Uk a whole lot of old MG metros, Rovers with Hiff Carbs cheap

Easy fit on a mIni, easy to make a single carb manifold, flow tests to make it all sound look good, a big mini supplier promotes them.. the sheep just follows the croud.

I run a Minispars manifold, Hiff44, kitted to make sure its good, played around with it needles etc. 1360cc K&N flilter blah blah

Going back to twin Sus HS4's

I know i am going to get grief for saying this but what the heck. ( and no sheep jokes cause i am a kiwi)

Could you not get graham to do some dyno testing

No grief from me about HIF44's
Shortly after purchase of Morris the motor had to be rebuilt and we placed a HIF44 on but kitted it, Dyno'd it and havent really touched it since. Atleast 4 years now
