this has probably been asked before, how much do hydrolich (sp) handbrakes cost? are the illegal to have on the road? do they stop the wheels better just kinda want some info for a noob like me

They are for rally or khana use.
They are illegal as a handbrake for a road car. Because hydraulics can leak down.

I won a heap of khanas without one.

They shouldnt be that hard to make, if you can weld and know what to buy. Could attach a rocker to the top of the handbrake, then a master cylinder to that, and hook it to your rear brakes. If you leave the cables there you should have still have a mechanical system thats hydraulically assisted. Or have i got it wrong?

IN QLD it is illegal to have it connected while driving, or to have it as your "parking brake". Also if you remove the old handbrake you can also get done for illegal modifactions to the braking system.

Depending on what you want you can get summin made and plumbed in for about $400 total considering M/C is $110 and then you need a "handle" and a mounting set-up and then the lines need to be installed and flared and then bled.

I made one for one of my minis recently. I hid the master under the back seat, the handle has a pivot just behind the standard handbrake and a long push rod. The handle and push rod are quick release.
The parts cost me $130 (trade)
The original handbrake is still functional.
With an engineers inspection it would be legal on the road with the handle removed. Like how NOS is legal if the lines are disconected.

What gets me, as a mechanic i can fit master cyls, flex hoses, wheel cyls,pads, shoes and fabricate pipes etc, but my handbrake is still illegal

As a mechanic you may have also noticed that workshop hydraulic hoists have mechanical safety locks.
You can't rely on hydraulics to hold pressure forever. That is why the hoists have safety catches. That is also why you never work under a raised tipper body that is only held up by a hydraulic ram.
So why would you trust a hydraulic handbrake to stop a car rolling down a hill? It does not matter who made it, there are just some things that are not allowed for good reason.
Sure a hydraulic handbrake is great for skids but will it be safe for parking a car overnight?
