Good for you... :P
I find Natrad are too dear, the one man radiator places are much cheaper.
Going price at Blacktown radiators was $90 recently. :D

I got a mini,,,, if i were you i would at least go back there & offer him $100 for doing it for you

If you don`t then karma does funny things,,, he obviously thought that you`d want it done & yes i think $187 is very expensive for a rad clean that`s for sure,,, but to walk away without paying him anything after he`s done the work to make sure it`s clean,,, well,,, i`d pay him something & it would leave it all open & happy if for any reason there`s any dramas later.

I think everyone would (or should) agree

I'd agree-you most likely find that he is a struggling Owner/Operator.

quite rude...

when he called you to tell you how much it was, why didn't you confront him then?

"words got exchanged"

good words? bad words?

did you just kinda walk out of the shop?

I hope not... because that would be akin to stealing!

Whilst you are within your rights to not pay because you did not specify for him to do the work, you should do the right thing and as matt said, offer him $100 for the work. You Obviously had the intention of getting it fixed because you had it out of the car.

Thats my opinion.

It was well within his rights to take it back and return back to you in the condition you left it - stuffed.

I have people try that sort of stuff on me. I just say well if thats the way you want to be . I will just hold on to it and we can sort it out through fair trading. Its amazing how quickly they start paying.

yeah theres definitely a communication error, and from my point of view its on your side. you brought him the radiator and asked for a quote, why did you walk out without a quote. they can pretty easily give you a figure there and then. then he rang you with a price for the finished work. why did you not say something then?
at the end of the day you got it for free, but it seems like your a bit of a scrooge for not paying when the technicality is your fault for not being able to communicate. yeah as matt says, karma is a bitch, i hope it doesnt come round to bite your in the ass.

this kind of thing happens all the time..
I lost count on how many times i took my mini to link automotive for a service or just to get a certain item fixed or replaced to find they had not only fixed the broken part but others as well...
im quite happy for them to do this as in the long run if the part was on its way out there doing me a favour..
I nerver said i wont pay for the extra items..i allways paid up as they had me and my mini in there best interest.
nat rad allways paint afterwords its just the done thing...most people are happy with this.
idd personly pay up....but thats just me..
