Hi , I pulled the drivers door apart today to do some repairs and fit a new outer handle return spring. The car is a roundie with wind up windows.

I have pulled the door lock assembly out and the outer door handle of the door .My problem is i can't see wher the spring goes.Do i take the split pin and circlip of to dismantle the outer handle and fit it under these? Or does it just fit on to the square shaft before the door handle link lever is connected.

If this is the case what does the outer end of the spring hook onto.Sorry about the vague description, it is a little hard to explain but i hope that people who have renewed them will know what i am trying to say.

Also i am having trouble with the link rod rattling when the door is closed .That is the rod that connects the inside door handle to the door lock assembly. It seems to run very close to the door frame.Is this common, is there an easy fix for this problem?

The clockwork spring slides over the square shaft of the outside door handle and is held in place by the U shaped "bell crank" that is connected to the door release,which is retained on the shaft with a C clip. the hook part of the spring "hooks" on to the longer door screw with the little tube spacer. Does that make sense? its been a while since i did one, double check with fellow Ausmini peoples.

Yes that makes complete sence thanks 850man. I don,t have a longer screw with a spacer, but easily fixed. Would that be the bottom screw, or front or rear screw?

Its the front ot rear screw, depending on which side your on.
