Hi guys,
I have Smiths heater in my Mk1 and need to know if there is a correct to connect the hoses to the heater core pipes. They can easily connect either way but is one way going to provide better heat? Enquiring minds need to know :?

Yes, I think you go from the rad bottom hose (hot water) to the lower heater pipe, then upper heater pipe back to the head?

Am I right, am I, am I Huh Huh?? :lol:

Actually, now I think, maybe the head end provides hotter water for the heater!

It is important to feed this to the lower of the two heater connections, that way it wont airlock.

So, I've changed my mind! Head (heater tap) to lower heater connection then upper heater connection back to bottom radiator hose! :D

Hi Graham,
This revised recommendation is the one I would have chosen .... I think. I was thinking about it and, and I could reason that if the water was actually being pumped, there might be some advantage in to heat output running the other way. Anyone else?

Maybe, but the power of convection current will be so small compared to the power of the presure flow that it will not be worth worrying about...

Also any air in the heater pipes will be blown straight out as soon as the car heats up.
