Make sure everything is CLEAN... light coat of etch primer and then whack on two coats of top coat. You don't need to be too careful as the lumpy cast finish of the metal takes up any mistakes...

It will last years...

Cheers, Ian

I did 2 motors with the same paint (Cooper S metallic green), the first one got etch primer sprayed on then the top coats sprayed.
The second one I simply hand brushed the top coat straight on from the can (no primer).
2 years later the 1st motor had adhesion problems, the 2nd was still good.
Both blocks were cleaned with prepsol, then wiped with thinners before painting.

Make of this what you will, but I now prefer a paintbrush...

lil-ute,
I use Wattyl Super Etch on my engines under any type of paint.
Spray it on, It sticks like _ _ _ _ to a blanket. You won't be dissapointed with this product mate.
I first used this stuff 10 years ago on one of my engines and it still looks as good as it did when I first did it. rock solid.
Very reasonnably priced, comes in black or grey.

Dave

I do same as Doc and the paint still on there and very tough, Multiple coats, thinned down and brushed on. I primered the gearbox though.

I have both sprayed and brushed the engine

Parts that bolt on were etch sprayed then finshed in colour out of a pressure pack can - nice smooth finish and OK however the block itself and the gear box were brushed on out of the can - no primer just acetone washed as prep.

The brushed finish seems to be deeper in colour and texture and looks a more 'ruggered' finish
