According to Australian Automotive Engineering and Equipment in October 1971, the Clubman range, including the Mini 1100, Mini Clubman and Clubman GT, was released on 16 August 1971.

In order for the cars to be available in showrooms at the time, production had to commence at least one or two months before hand.

Compliance plates were fitted when the cars were sold to dealerships, rather than when they were actually manufactured, but as the release was imminent it is reasonable to assume the Compliance Plate date on the early Clubman GT is the manufacture date.

So, yes, July manufactured GTs would be plated as such, and sent to state distribution centres for final detail and check, and from there to dearlerships, ready for the 16 August release.

Cheers,
Watto.
