I'll put it on a longer manifold one day when I'm feeling flush with cash

Anyone old enough to remember Amal carbys is old enough not to remember anything anymore.

I have a book here with a bit about Amals on Morris 1100s.

What I can recall being fitted to Minis...
SU (HS2, HS4, HS6, HIF4, HIF6, HIF32, HIF44, H2, H4, etc.
Amal
Fish
Weber
Dellorto
Stromberg (150CD, 175CD)
Solex
Hitachi
And probably lots more.

Solex is a French company but there were lots of Japanese Solex carbies made under licence by Hitachi.

John, the 1058cc Mini I got crashed in back in 1965 had a pair of Amal Monobloc 1-3/16"s on it. I made the 15° manifold from steel hydraulic tube.
Any more than 15° and it would flood through the idle jets when stopped.
It went great, except the carbs had slide throttles run by 2 into 1 cables (Triumph Bonneville setup). The slides used to stick at idle, so you either stalled it at the lights or left in a cloud of tyre smoke.:P .
