Isn't this more to do with leverage, smaller (thinner but longer) pads because of smaller pistons placed further out on big disc. Therefore distance from hub centre is greater therefore like applying a 'longer lever'?

I think also (like inlet valves) more smaller pistons allow greater surface area acting on pads via caliper pistons in a given available area (inside wheel) for caliper.

The pad tilt issue is relevant too.

All adds up to better brakes and some w@nk factor for appearance too!!

yep,,, Graham you got it with a better, shorter, more easilly understood ,explanation than me

I find it easier to draw pictures to explain things :-) the problem is that i don`t know how to use a computerised pencil :-)

Thanks for the explanations, so in conclusion i gather

More pots dont actually make you stop better, in that 2pots can do just as good a job as 6pots. The major benfit is that they are more reliable and efficient.

Is that correct

(Matt i think i inderstand what you are saying, but dont get the the benefit of it except to generate less heat, Ohh is it that moving it outward the disc is spinning quicker so stopping it there will work better?)

also depends on many other factors too. lines, pad selection, fluids etc can all make a difference.

most race pads are no good for street use as they don't get hot enough to bite on normal street driving for example.
