i took an old drum hub into work today, during lunch time, pulled the backing plate off, and loots pretty simple.. my boss showed up and told me there was a civic outside the scrap metal yard.. went for a drive up there but it was the older 76 shape, the calipers looked huge.. and the rotors looked heaps different.. offet wise..

my mate is a ftter and turner, (aprentice) he has access to alll types of steel, heat treaded if need be 8) so yeah, ill be getting stuck into it asap

hey doc i have a solution for making a thicker backing plate without spacing the rotor :), as it turnrd out my calipers were from a 1982 honda civic ,the earlier ones are spacered differently, the discs from thic car were 6mm deeper . if you use these calipers and the dba 191 rotors you get an extra 6mm or so for a thicker back plate :) so 10mm back plate is all go :)

Great idea Ben, for your 12s but may not work with 10" wheels, which is how this project all got started...

Heres a little more info on accord setups, I have recently finnished my second set and starting my third and have found the following differrences:
- accord calipers wider in cage than civic/city for ventalated discs
- pad size is larger for accord
- accord discs are ventalated(already knew that)
- accord calipers thicker at bolt up points
- accord rotors thicker in centre area(stud bolt up)
there may be a few more but these were the most noticeable.

animal, are your mounting plates similar to drmini's ones for the normal civic brakes? or are yours somewhat different? thanks

My mate told me last night that his sisters Honda prelude was going to the scrap metal place.. so i thought, hrmm.. it has 13's and is an 81 model, went there about an hour ago, and took the brakes and rotors off.. there 9" rotors, and the calipers look the same as ausminis i think.. but yeah they fit inside my 12" performance supers so yeah.. 8)

i noticed that the stud pattern is pretty close, you can see in the first pic, the rotor on the left has the mini hub and studs poking through, thinking about getting the wheels too!!

oh yeah , the pads are like new, and the whole lot didnt cost me a cent

Er,guys,
I was wrong about the mounting plate thickness for Civics. I made some from 3.5mm plate, but had to make some spacers about the same thickness to get caliper to sit central. I'll post the actual size tomorrow but I think 8mm plates would be good.

<edit 3.5 was right for my City ones...

See my caliper bracket photo a few posts up-
the original Honda 12mm FINE thread bolts go thru the 2 big 12.0mm holes, and into the caliper which is already threaded. I just had to shorten these bolts 3mm to clear the disc.

<edit> BTW Bendix DB285 Honda pads are same as current Bendix DB408 pads.

Yeh as for the backing plate I used 4.5mm stainless steel. Check out the pic drmini posted up of my discs. as for the prelude setup i have to say the calipers look very similar to mine but the rotors are not vented, which may well mean that it might be possible to mix them up a bit. I'll send drminii a pic of the second set i just finished and see if he can post it up for u's

Went to Pick 'n Payless again yesterday, (to scrounge a Honda pad anti-rattle clip) and they have quite a bunch of Hondas there. Funny thing is, there seem to be many slightly different calipers used within the same model and year. Obviously they are a buy-in part.
I guess it doesn't really matter though, mount points all seem the same (140mm).

The 9" Civics inside the 12x5 Performance mags look good, clear the wheels by 3mm, and STOP!! :P

<edit> typos fixed...

has anyone tried putting 13's with 70 series tyres on the rear of a mini? because i just jacked up my mini and bolted up a 13" honda stocko on the front, fits nicely too! i doubt it will fit on the rear, but the 13's on the front would be good for the drags

im thinknig of finding some 13" honda mags somwhere and outting some lower profile tyres on..
