 Post subject: Nyloc nuts

Does the thread have to pass all the way through a nyloc nut to be effective? I put some new nylocs - one each end of the swing arm spindle in place of the spring washer and nut but they are a bit deeper and the inside ones are about half a thread shy of coming all the way through. I have some large thick washers behind them and wondering if I should leave them out or go back to the original setup.

The nylocs are probably Chinese rubbish steel now anyway. Grade 4 or something.:wink:

I don't cut corners on fasteners.
I have mostly 10.9s on my car, still fairly cheap too if you buy in bulk.

I bought what were supposed to be grade 8's from coventry, and when I torqued them up, the metal on the base of the nut actually started to peel - nasty

could always try what I know as "prevailing torque nuts". The ones that when you look on them from the top, the whole with the thread isnt exactly round. Looks more like someone has put a nut in a vice and squashed it a little! They lock up nice and tight!
