Right this pollution gear on mini's is a little unknown to me(didn't know it existed, don't think they had it on uk mini's or i only ever seen later ones!!!)but i have taken on board over the months it can be removed!>?

So here is a picture what will go to where if removed!?

Also if i fit a shiny rocker cover where will the hose go as the have no onnection on them!?

Pollution gear refers to the air pump. Leave the charcoal canister in there.
I'd not replace the rocker cover unless the new one has a breather.

That is the first stage of polution gear. That was called ELC. It was to comply to ADR27 (not the vicious EPAI system that was ADR27a) It does not do much but it is not a very good breather system.

It takes a bit of thinking to see how it works and how to ditch it. Things are not what they seem, hoses that you think run one way actually run the other way.
The hose from the canister to the rocker cover is not the let fumes out of the rocker cover, it is to let air into the engine and suck the petrol vapour out out of the charcoal.
The hose from the timing case to the carby is to suck the fumes out of the motor.
There is a restrictor in the rocker cover fitting to only allow a set amount of air into the motor.
The oil cap is sealed and has no breather.

I would fit a vented oil cap and a PCV valve to the hose from the timing cover to the carby. I would just remove the hose from the charcoal canister to the rocker cover and fit any rocker cover.

Air pump looks gone, I can see the plugs in the head where the pipes were, but no injection piping.

If a cop who knows anything about cars has a look and sees no carbon cannister he will defect it.

Thanks for the pic too, i'm busy putting mine in and WAS going to ask where the centre fitting conected to and if i'd mounted it in the right place. Now i know.

There was a hose from fuel tank to canister, it's just a vapour line.
On some cars there is also a line from SU float bowl to canister, again it's just a vapour line.
Both these lines are breathers. DO NOT plug either of these lines if fitted.

so i leave pipe to vent off SU!? is that not fuel dangerous!?!?

No it isn't dangerous. Air goes in there, not fuel out. Earlier SUs just have a hole in the lid there to let the air in.
Leave the vent hose off the carby, or get an earlier lid so it looks less obvious.

Many people here run later HIF carbys, with unused fittings sticking out all over.
