If it's a wrrrrring noise rather than a high pitched squeek as you describe it then it's probably a wheel bearing. Don't worry too much, they take ages and ages to sieze... (at least a few hundred miles). Replace both sides

If it's a high pitched squeek then it may be something else?

err... it's kind of a high-pitched, squeaky whirr... i've left the car in the middle of the garage so i can go and test it. should get around to that while it is still daylight...

the steering doesnt feel any different, if a bearing was on it's way out i would get shaky steering wheel?

i don't want to be out somewhere or on my way to work when it seizes...

You might not have enough / any grease left in the bearing. Rather than it starting to fail it might just be squealling a bit due to metal to metal contact.

Pull the bearing out and replace, or if you want to take a short cut :? just clean it up and repack it with grease. Might get you another few months if there's not to much damage already.

if it's the bearings, i might as well just replace them. not much point getting in there and getting filthy if i'm just going to have to do it again in a few months... i'll just have to wait till next week to get the bearings (can get one now and one next week but might as well save the cash this week, no point buying one at a time)

and then get bearings for the rear in another couple of weeks...

Dylan, hows your brake pedal? Have you had your brakes adjusted recently?
Has part of the car possibly fallen in the the path of your tyres and only rubs when it in a straight ahead position :P
Have you jacked the car up and given the wheel a wiggle up and down to check for excessive movement from the bearing or the c/v nut??

:P The squeak could be the person that you were going to give a ride home from the pub last weekend but forgot you put them in the boot.

the straight bits between the corners! by they way, i think i live about 15 minutes from you, in clifton springs...

scott, i adjusted the brakes before the lorne cruise, but they are due for another hit. however, it is definately possible, nay, probable that my car is falling apart

the wheel wiggle is the test i meant to do. but didn't...

and besides, i most certainly DID NOT drive to the pub last week. i know this because i spent almost 50 bucks on the taxi home

:? does the noise make a constant sound especially when going over bumps in the road :?:

:) does the noise go away on all types of left and right turns or only one way :?:

If you have trouble hearing the noise to decide wether it is a wheel bearing or not, a good trick is to find a hill, roll down it in nuetral with the engine off. Thats a good way to narrow down what the noise might be.
