hey lads!

I have been getting my car all finished and going but i have a problem.\

I lift to drivers side but for some reason i can't Select reverse on mine, when i lift it up it wont go into gear? (Rod change)

when i put it in 4th my reverse light comes on?

not sure what is going on, i just rolled the car down the driveway a bit & attempted again to slot in reverse still no go.

any ideas?

Does it get all other gears ok?
I once assenbled a gear selector with the lower rod 180 upside down, stick went in ok, drove it onto ramps but couldn't get it off :?
Took out the gearstick and found the lower cup upside down

take the reverse light switch out of the front of the g'box casing, and try that. I garantee, that will be what it is!! Sometimes they like to stick, a few of mine have and thats all it is. Give it a go and you'll soon see :)

My clubman used to do that, and my sisters clubman used to do that when she went over a big enough bump in 4th, turns out I had put the reverse switch in too far, we just undid it a bit, and hey presto! they work properly. No idea about the no reverse tho sorry. Is it a rod change box?

This is the mini that went under water isn't it ? Just check the gear linkages above the diff behind the motor , could have some crud or foreign objects jammed in there .

It is a rod-change, that won't apply in this case.

yep this is the one.

it was working fine before this has only come about once we kicked it over (not started) just turnt it over.

it seems changing through gears tight now . could that have anything to do with it?

the clutch is not bleed up either Ie no pedal will get to this, though changing through the gears as is feel tight & dry ( was just checking up on something.

i have plenty of grease in there & of full oil in the engine & i did flush it all out so there is no water there.

i have a feeling it is to do with turning it over some how?

well i bleeded up the clutch today working nice. all gears engage.

but still no reverse, i can grab all other gears but no reverse? i can't even Push it in there!

when i bought the engine steve at brickworks pulled it apart & replaced all the internals that needed a good fixing on the gearbox.

so the gearbox should be good, i'm sure he does great work.

is there anything else i'm missing. voodoo mini tricks.

Its time to put the car on 4 stands at a hight you can comfortably lie under, unscrew the plate on the bottom of the gear selector, check the reverse switch on the inside, check the pins in the selector rods, now have some lean in and slowly put it into first, second, third, fourth, watch the movement of the selector rods and pins, now have them try reverse, by now you should know where the problem is,. Missing pin ? Bent selector rod ? Obstruction inside the gear selector box ? to complete the inspection remove the gearstick and check for wear in the step on the bottom, broken or missing spring, condition of nylon cup and washer, repair, regrease , rescrew, reasemble, review.
