Hey, I have a 998cc engine that has not been started for at least 5years. How would I go about restoring and boring it out?
How far can a 998 be bored out?
This is the 1st engine that I would be attempting to restore myself, what can be done by us and what should be done by an expert?

im just on the final stages of rebuilding my 1st engine, and it has taken me about 6 months at school. provided you have the tools (by buying or borrowing) you can strip the engine- send away for machining - and if you wanted to learn more you can put it back together yourself.

my 998 was bored out .080" bringing it to about 1062 cc , i have de -shrouded the chambers to accomodate increase in air flow and hopefully velocity. i have a 266 cam and will soon be running a pulsar dizzy and coil, i am hoping for around 50-ish HP.

i think max over size bore for 998 is .100" or .120"

all my machining was done by Graham Russel, and i can tell you his work is great, he will help you out in any way he can.

you will need a variety of tools, especially manuals and ausmini, you will also need plenty of bandaids. :D

to keep on a tight budget, do most of the work yourself.

also budget for things like gearbox and ancilleries

most of all, have fun 8)
