Morris I tried welding a adjuster to a shocker when I did not know better. ended up with a face full of burning oil as it blew out of the seal and ignited.
Doug trengove then showed me the correct way of doing it. Far less hazardous.
They were VW shocks and were fitted to the Morrie on my avitar

I can just imagine what would happen when you try to weld a shock.
I don't know if this bloke blew any up or if he had a magic technique, it is not something that I would like to try.
He was a mate of Ron and Austin Tauranac. But I can't imagine Ron trying to braze a shock.

Shocks are still being modded like that:
Drill hole, drain oil, carry out mods, refill oil using small funnel, plug hole.

This technique is often used in combination with a heavier oil to make a budget "sports" damper.

some of my old shocks would need a BIG hole to get something like STP in there to make them do any thing at all :-)
