I regard used hydro fluid like used brake fluid, only worse... :P

don't worry - I don't re-use it, but I do prefer not to have it spray up my arm and in my eyes ;)

What is wrong with 40 year old fluid in a 40 year old car? 8)

The original fluid is nice & sticky, has the consistency (and feel) of seagull's cum

Not like the stuff they sell you today - too watery. That's why I prefer to use Nulon coolant (the expensive stuff).

Why not bleed the system from the front hydro unions. Thats what I do and usually get it in a single 'go' No air left.

I did a pump up for a guy last month - I pumped it up with water and then squirted it out - the 40 year old stuff came out chocolate brown, and way thicker than seagull's cum

That is sort of what I do, but I have a Morris 1100 so you are filling it from under the bonnet anyway.
I fill the displacer with fluid before fitting it to the car.
I fit the displacer and leave the connection to the pipe loose.
I then push as much air as I can out of the pipe by lifting the wishbone which pushes fluid out of the bag.
Once it starts pushing fluid out of the connection I do it up tight.
Then I pump it up.

You can get all the air out of the system if you are careful.

I have been going to make a simple vacuum pump but I haven't got around to it yet.
I have been toying with a few ideas for getting the required vacuum.
The easiest way that I have come up with is to use inlet manifold vacuum.

A question for hydro pump up experts.
If you don't use the vacuum pump and rely on the pressure to force out trapped air by dumping the fluid fast how do you ensure that air bubbles trapped in aerated fluid are removed or isn't it a problem?

I would guess a small qty of air is no big deal. Not the same situation as if you have aerated brake fluid. I don't believe there would be a perfect vacuum using the vacuum pump anyway.

Air left in the system just contributes extra "spring" effect (softening the ride a little) and reducing the fore-aft flow of hydro fluid. No biggie if it's a small amount, especially if you have fitted comp. rear bumpstops and front shocks.
