Ok, having an issue with my brakes, new shoes, new drums, new cylinder etc... Fronts seem to bleed up fine, but the issue comes on the rears where one time it will bleed fine then the next time i go to bleed the tension goes off the shoes and fluid dribbles out but the pedal dosen't move, would this be the device that mounts on the rear subframe messing up!?

thanks

I'll say now i only know a little bit about this, not a total pro.

I'm pretty sure the valve is designed so that if you pump the pedal hard, it will block off the fluid going to the rear wheels, so that it has only let a certain amount passed. But if you depress the pedal slowly/gently then the valve will not block of the back, therefore allowing you to bleed the brakes. The idea is so if you stand on the brakes, the rears wont lock up.

Or so is my understanding.

So if your trying to bleed the back brakes, and you have an assistant, just open the nipple and get your assistant to gently pump the pedal. So WHILST the nipple is open, and then fluid should come out nicely. Then close the bleeder and take foot of brakes. And repeat.

Instead of closing the bleeder repeatedly you could also just open it, press your finger on the end, then you can let pressure of to let fluid out, and press again when the person lifts off the brake pedal. And repeat that.

If my method of bleeding the backs doesnt seem to work then maybe there is a problem.

Might be the hoses

But it could also be the valve,,, don`t "pressure" bleed them,,, just let them "gravity" bleed

If they don`t just p!$$ out whilst gravity bleeding then possibly the hoses are stuffed or the valve has locked up

"""IF""" you do even "Pressure" bleed the system, then you should open both a front & a rear at the same time

& i never ever "pump up a pedal" & then release the nipple,,, you`re only asking for toruble doing that

Altho i don`t mind a bit of a pump & a nipple at the same time :-)

The valve needs a fair bit of pressure to get it to close, around 250 - 300psi of line pressure.
Just normal foot on the brake and open the bleeder type of pressure shouldn't close it but then again I don't know how big your feet are. If you press them real hard the valve will close. But if you are just using soft pressure it shouldn't close.

I would look at the hoses. If they are the original hoses they should be changed.

New hoses and my wifes foot pressure seems to make it close, did the crack and push pedal method and was getting fluid through but still no real pedal and yes the brakes are adjusted up!

Gareth,,, you`ll need to """UN_ADJUST""" the front brakes """BEFORE""" you bleed the system,,, then adjust them back up "AFTER" bleeding

edit,,, & yeah i know you`re trying to bleed the rears,,, just thought you may find some glory in doing all 4 "Properly"
