How would one go about verifying that a car is indeed the car it is, i.e, not stolen/rebirthed/whatever else happens, when it is missing just about every form of i.d? Got one shell used to be a racecar and has all the tags removes and another shell which is missing the tags but not too sure bout the history of it yet, will find out soon. I have proof of purchase for both cars.

If the numbers have been cut out of the firewall and the radiator shroud, I would smell a rat...
It would not be the first stolen car turned into a racer.

The race car has genuine local race history owned by a few local names, still digging up proper info on the poeple who owned/raced it. I bought it off a reputable company who was the last company the car was raced for. The other car isnt in my shed yet and haven't spoken to the current owner bout its history, but i believe him to be trustworthy. So, apart from doubts, questions and opinions, is there any way? like wiper motor? i think thats the only thing left in the race car.

Depending on the car I could possibly tell what it was by looking at it. There are a few clues in some of the panels.

As for the lack of ID. You should be able to get a new ID issued by your states rego authority. They can issue a new chassis number.

How easy is it to get a new chassis number issued, and what info do i need for it?
On a side note, 10916 and ?O(maybe 0 or G)2S(5?)1 on a rad shroud, any clues? taken quite a beating and hsas been flattened a bit. Also, on another car Engine no is 9YA/Ta/H and next to it it has 33686 stamped, what does the 33686 mean? already know its a 998 from a Dlux.

Sorry to be annoying but I'm no good with this stuff.

YG2S1 is a Mini K I think - could it be that? the 10916 is the car number + 500

maybe - looks small! the wipers appear to be parking on the left hand side - other than that, can't tell from just one tiny photo :)

lots - most common model mini produced from April '69 to early '71, so plenty of them

I qualified it!

'between' might have been more appropriate rather than 'from' - but there was qualification!!

YG2S1 is a K.
YG2S5 is a poverty Mini 1100.
It looks like one or the other.

In 1969 they didn't fit any ID or Compliance plate under the bonnet. The stamping on the radiator shroud panel is the proper ID.
There is also a body number stamping in the gutter at the rear of the bonnet opening.

If you can read the number on the radiator shroud panel you can register the car. You may need to carefully clean the panel to read it better.

Does it have any interior?
Where is the gear lever hole?
Dash?
Did it ever have hydro?

I sanded the paint (layers and layers of it) back but its taken a beating, the Y is definately missing, G is near indistinguishable the S looks like a 5 and the S looks like a 1 lol. If i get the number out of the boot gutter, can it be matched with the rad shroud number?

It had a seat, don't think it was original though as it was loose in the shell, there ar 3 gear lever holes, a pudding stick hole, a remote shift hole and another hole further back for the rear gearstick.
Dash was custon when i got it, but the underneath is split into 3 sections
Not sure bout the hydro

Looks kinda like it had a Mini K bonnet badge looking at the bonnet?
Not that that proves anything...
