I have brought some more bits for it; adjustable rear tracking/camber brackets, centre oil pick up. Will be finishing off the welding tomorrow and starting to build a stand for the body.

Finally found the problem with the ignition missing....

I've been chasing an ignition miss for a month. Blamed it on the rain (yeah, yeah). I've been wiping down caps (inside & out) leads, plugs (old & new), WD40, ice cream bucket, etc...

After the latest try, I ruby took it out for a spin. Miss is still there. Especially at higher revs, anything past 50 mph in 4th gear and a load in 4th.

Broke down and pull over to the side of the road. Classic ignition failure at 40 mph with no firing at all now. I tried:
Restarting.
Cleaning leads, plugs & cap.
WD40.
Swearing, Etc.

I would turn over but not fire. About to call a tow truck to get us home.
I thought I'd wipe the low tension leads over and found the neg connection to the coil hanging on by 4 or 5 copper strands. This is the connection that goes to the points.
The coil's lead & HT connection was pristine but the LT connections were dirty, loose and the wiring damaged.
Cleaned them up and ruby fired up.

Limped home via repco and picked up some narva covered spade connecters and a new GT40 coil.
Someone had wound tape on the coil wires together so tightly it was pulling too hard and damaged one. I'd say when the rpm increased the poorly connected joint couldn't keep up with the load and the ignition miss occurred. It was probably just working in the dry and then had no hope in the wet weather we've been having here. Then finally failed.

I took her for a test drive and it is unbelivable the difference. More responsive reving, I couldn't get it to miss at all and just pulled in any gear or speed.

I wish I found this a month ago. Should I blame Lucas, the prince of darkness? Or the DIY jester who damaged the wiring?

C&B,
Mark.

it's always the shoddy maintenance, I reckon Lucas electrics are great - I always say I wish I could build an electrical system that could last 40 odd years of neglect and shoddy maintenance

Fixed a driveline `clunk' that came in during the Southern Highlands run.
New nyloc nuts on the Cooper S U/Js were all coming a bit loose... as they do.

I think I sorted out my radiator issue in my VTEC swap Travelle"R". The issue was I had no idea what I was going to do about fitting a radiator in such a small space. I am having a Mini radiator modified to have twice the cooling capacity of the Honda radiator from the donor car I used.
