Has anyone got any experience with these kinds of trailers (Gypsy Trailers)

$2500 gets you a tilt trailer to suit a mini, registed ready to go brand new, cheap in my book. Holiday trailers at Yennora makes em

Cost is not too much the problem as room and weight. With this i could tip it upwards and out of the way... bigger trailer i wouldnt have the room for it. Also we only have a small 4wd so these smaller trailer + mini would be < tow capacity. Full trailer pushes it over this "limit"...

I'm trying to find the appropriate section on the RTA's website (like trying to push a piece of string) but I have been told that the vehicle on the dolly (gypsy) trailer has to be registered as well as the dolly . Will post confirmation when I find it .

The tilt trailers are quite small, as for space, park a car on it, 2 things in the one space, weight is around 500kg, plus a mini at around 660kg, thats under 1200kg, any small 4WD should easily tow that.

The major problem with most small trailers is that rear sticks up way too high and the ramps are too short. That simply means that you are constantly looking for some sort of incline so you can drive the mini on without scraping the exhaust or floor as the car goes onto the trailer.

If i was to buy another trailer it would be a tilt trailer. I have two trailers from Holiday Trailers and they are good.

Oh that will be ok for me. Its basically going to be for "salvage" if my Minis break down... I decided that if I was ever to get myself a project car, it would be dropped off into my garage, and wouldnt come out until it was able to do so under its own steam (well petrol engine at least)... Then i can drive it to a place of registration for blue slip etc.

You could fold it up & store it away, even carry it in the boot.
As long as your mini is registered, you'd need a 1500kg car and it's all legal according to this:

If there is enough interest, I could get a batch made up with proper engineering certification. Guestimated cost $200

I was looking at Gypsy trailers etc to get my Moke's around and decided to build my own.
Storage room is also a problem for me so I made the trailer come apart, the 'deck' that the moke sits on are tilting ramps which are held on with 20mm pins and clips, when the ramps are removed the back off the trailer ends at the spring hangers.
I probably made it too heavy as the main frame is 100 x 50 x 2.5 rhs, I could of got away with maybe 75 x 50 x 2 rhs and I should of made the drawbar either tilt or dismantleable.

If a trailer has a gross weight of more than 750kg then it needs to have brakes so as a mini/moke weigh about 650kg then it is unlikely that you could make a trailer weigh less than 100kg so you'll need brakes.

With the Gypsy trailers they seem quite dear for what they are, I told they are near impossible to reverse if you have a car on it, the trailer needs to be registered and if your mini / moke has a broken trailing arm pin or something wrong in the rear then the gypsy will be no good, same goes with A frames

on the topic of trailers, anybody got a ridgy didge mini/moke subframe tow bar for sale.

if not where can i get a replica one made up, or purchase an aftermarket one.

OMFG thats a brilliant idea..!!!! Only thing i dont understand is how does the front car control the back cars steering..? Like with a tow truck or one of those gypsy trailers, it lifts the front wheels so only the fixed wheels are still on the ground. This way it acts like a semi pulling a trailer. When you turn with something like this, doesnt the 4 wheels of the towed car being on the ground affect the ability of the towing car to turn?

This would definitely be a better alternative to a couple of ropes I must say. I am just intrigued how it would feel to drive the towing car...

With our pending move back to the Sunshine Coast I'm starting to look at a trailer however Mini transport is secondary (but a necessary requirement) as I anticipate needing a solid box trailer for landscape and building materials - Would people suggest 10X5 as minimum ? I'd like 11-12 X 6 with duel axel and electric brakes but we might be getting carried away there :roll:

I have an 8 x 5 , the mini just fits onto it with the front and back boards off. The boards need to be off because it pokes out either way a couple hundred mm. Then ratchet strap it down and it doesn't go anywhere. A slightly bigger trailer would be better though. It has enough room sideways to fit on. The only problem I found was getting it onto the trailer. you need quite long ramps or the bum drags as you put it up onto trailer
