fuel smells tend to linger if they have gotten on your carpet or firewall insulation somehow.

i had an engine mount start to go and as a result the carby hit on the firwall and broke the jet on the back, it leaked fuel from here and you could smell it coming through the firewall and all around the car after you stopped.

on a side note the car ran better that way than it did when it wasn't broken

check all your fuel lines with the car off and if you cant find anything turn the ignition to on, (so the pump is going) but don't start the car, you'll find any leaks pretty quick that way (by your car exploding once it gets to an electrical connection)

My car did this, but just using normal fuel, no E10. The hose was only 2 years old maybe. I'm lucky i noticed it, my fuel gauge wasnt working and i thought i had heaps of petrol left, but it was nearly all gone!

What brand of carby kit did you use? And what fuel?
Mine was a Fuel Miser kit. I got in touch with their technical bloke who looked into it and found that the hose was tested and safe for "unleaded petrol" but not for E10 or 95 octane or higher.

I don't know what brand the kit was, but the hose was a little black one, not the fancy wire wound one if you know what i mean. The hose split where it pushes onto the jet and it was just a constant stream with the fuel pump going.

The fuel I used was normally Shell or BP 95 and then i used some 98 for a while.

So the hose you bought was only rated for what was in the below 95 octane fuel? Thats a bit silly if you ask me.
