I've heard they required a bit if tightening but at the same time make sure the O ring is not squeezed out.

What about a smear of rubber grease? Its rated for use in brake parts, and might be enough to form a seal without resorting to heavier products....or even a turn or two of good old pipe sealing teflon tape?
