For an 850 or pre-ADR complianced car shouldn't it be ok?

Belts were from u-pullit - I was also under the impression that you couldn't sell them secondhand, must be getting around it somehow by classing them as 'replacement parts'?

Years and years ago my Dad put clubman retractable seatbelts in his 850 (because it didn't have any) - got them from Kevin at Mini Tech but he said he couldn't charge us anything for them for that reason. But he did get a carton from us for christmas! :lol:

great how to but.... eek seatbelts from wrecked cars!

for $80.00 each you can buy new retractables.. i imagine much less $ for new non-retractables...

a few issues arise from doing this:
- using secondhand seatbelts is illegal
- mismatched buckles and belt catch, questionable compatibility
- insurance pay out issues due to the above

but to each their own!

also.. I noticed you spray painted faded parts... when faded, the strength of seat belts is greatly reduced and they are deemed expired. One of the reasons you were replacing the old belts is because they were faded!!! Also I would question the effects of the spray paint chemicals on the fibres.

Just fitted new retractables in Boris (1969) For $190 both. Best thing I did.

Blue slip, no problem, they would rather a good safe new belt than an old period one which looks tatty.

Slight mod to fitting retractables but, need to cut excess metal off the mounting strap just below hole. Otherwise this sits up too high and hits the door pocket. Can not close door.

Fit as normal and you will see, easy job.

Have you looked at the price board at a self-server wreckers lately? ALL of them I have visited listed prices for seat belts. So if it's illegal to sell them, nobody has told the wreckers! :shock:

If you have old original style seatbelts that are looking a bit tired, this company in WA can repair them for you. They use modern webbing in a range of colours, but enable you to retain the original style clasps rather than having to use modern black and orange eyesores.

Thanks for the link Tim! I actually have a brand new set of the original chrome style buckles but haven't been able to find anyone who will replicate the originals with the light grey webbing. I will give them a try!

yeah sounds good..

but i thought about that, and originality can go out the window in this case.
The only safety equipment my 850 has are the seat belts, so they are brand new ones with modern buckles, thanks minisport. :wink:

Whilst we're on the whole used seatbelt topic, can I still re-use seatbelts that I removed from my car years ago when I began the rebuild?
Do they have to have a date or something on them?

Still on seatbelts...

Remember a report from some authority that non retractable seat belts are safer than retractable (IF in good condition).

Just need the switch extensions and a passenger!
