I was thinking recently that when I finally get that lotto ticket. I'd get the KAD 5 speed 'box which has a 1:1 5th gear, but use a 2.76:1 final drive. So I did have the a bit lower top gear revs but an extra gear to shift through on the way up.

yeah, but your 1st gear ratio stays the same, so the diff makes it slow off the line

That's a good point, at the moment I do crave a longer first gear. But maybe it would be too long. A close ratio set would probably help with this with the standard ratio diff. I think the 5 speed + 2.76 diff would be good up where I live, up in hills. However, the long 1st wouldn't help me with the traffic light cup.

I have a worked 1360, Mk2S gears and a 3.647 diff. 1st gear is too short, I lose traction (A008s) at 4500 up...
My 3.44 is going back in next time it's out, but IMO a 3.2 ratio would be perfect.

Doc I hear you, I think 3.2 ratio is perfectly suited to a high output engine. First is just too short on mine too... how many 3.2's do you have? 8)

One of the more cleverer forum members has made a few 5 speedmini boxes using Morris Nomad gear sets, requires a couple of mods to casing but looks like a good job.
He only makes the for himself or family though

none... he said the 3.44 is going back in. I bet if you bought 2 sets, he'd install one in his and one in yours though

MkI S three synchro sccr gear is very long - stretches to something like 60 mph in first gear with a 3.44 diff at a cool 8,000rpm (I seem to recall).

Yep, hard to get away...
by comparison, Mk1 S stock gears give 40.25MPH in 1st at 8000.

A friend here in Canberra has just decided to sell his KAD 5 speed Dog box. Only done about 100km's. He wanted something less agressive than a dogbox for his road car.
Contact me if any one is genuinely interested.

Syd

I wasn't implying that he was going to put any in, I was asking if he had any in his stock... You're assuming that I did not understand his first post, but I did.

Just want to clarify because it seems lots of people are quite nit picky with posts these days... Take a chill pill peeps
