ok i spose we have good and bads on it all,, but consider this,,

1.3L NA motor producing 150hp@wheels

1.3L turbo motor producing 150Hp@wheels

What would you choose? NA or turbo?

Well yes they have the same power but the turbo motor will have twice as much torque, wider power band and probably last twice as long.

But i still think a NA race car on full song sounds bloody awsome :shock:

Correction... "Small Engines BACKYARD ENGINEERED Turbo car" .... :-)

soon to be about 90 at the treads i reckon.... not bad for a lil 1000 ......

For the street, i'd prefer a turbo. two cars of the same power level, one NA the other blown, the NA will be a cranky pig... the turbo can be sweet .....
Track.... umm, probably N/a .... the torque is instant, as opposed to waiting for it to build, then BAM ......

On a DEDICATED track car I would take NA...Street, turbo..but you know i'm a big NA fan..so i'm biased :lol:

Question 1.3L Turbo 150HP or 1.6L Honda 150HP? Turbo has more torque, but i think you could keep the honda in the powerband alot longer on a track..On the street it would be the other way around..

Let's see how long the backyard 998 can handle it :lol:

It's that BAM that gets you in trouble on the track..you want smoooooth baby 8)

what compression ratio would you end up with if you stuck a 998 crank in a standard 1100? (or 1100 pistons in a 998?)
blocks and rods are the same no?

the block is the same... but i think the rods are a bit shorter in the 1100 setup as the are stroked... therefore, if they were the same length, would the piston smack the head??? :?

just chuck a turbo on.... much more fun then an 1100 :D

how would i go about pocketing a stardard 998 head to lower the compression for a turbo?

I would imagine you just attack it with a die grinder to make the chambers bigger, look at getting some deep dished pistons as well..

everyone makes valid points, NA cars are smooth and can be great on the track, turbo like mine is a bit crazy on the track cause of traction loss and torque steer

as kev said on the straight i had many cars but round corners and out of them most had me.

my choice is NA for track and a stupid crazy turbo for the road he he

i'm pretty sure the rods are the same.. but the piston itself is smaller in height on an 1100.. yes they are stroked

so what i was wondering.. was with shorter pistons from an 1100 and a 998 crank.. this will lower compression (cheaply) but by how much

are omega pistons expensive as they make a cast and a forged deep dish turbo piston :)

Omega turbo pistons are for big bores, not 998 or 1098.

Nuke,
as Josh said 998 & 1098 rods are the same.
Pin to crown height of a 1098 piston is 0.148" less than a 998 one. :wink:

You don't really need deep dished pistons on a 998 or 1098. Just carve the crap out of the chambers.

I did a 202 head for a Sprite 1220 motor(Hillman Imp pistons) that had 29cc chambers. He needed this volume as he had flat top pistons, and didn't want the C/R over 9:1.
So, you can gouge it out this big (or bigger) for a turbo motor. :wink:

i guess you could also go the 12G940 head on one pocket the block (yes not totaly cheep) and you have a much better flowing head for a turbo plus lower compression
