Anyone used one? I remember seeing somewhere where a guy had created a whole box for the carb on a blow through setup, but it might have been a Weber...

I know they used Dellortos on the turbo Lotus (I assume this was a blow through as well) and that they used a different type of float to cope with the pressure from the turbo.
Could you use a normal DHLA Dellorto and just fit a seal kit like this:
Image
http://www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/products_details.asp?PartNo=DHLAturbokit&CategoryID=1&PartsectionID=1

How would this type of carb work with a blow through supercharger setup (due to the higher pressure at idle and when the thrttle is closed)?
Done some searching on the web and most of the stuff that comes back is for Holly's and big blocks.

I know a few of you knowledgeable people on here are Dellorto fans, so I thought I'd pick your brains. :D

A bloke named Jukka (in Finland?) did a blow-thru 45DHLA setup years ago, it went well after he sorted out a few teething problems.
He has a website somewhere...

Indeed he did : http://www.geocities.com/jharkola/1380turbo4.html

and there are others around: http://www.autosportlabs.org/viewtopic.php?t=1761

but

Having said that (and done the Dellorto option), you will hardly gain anything by swapping the SU HIF to Weber or Dellorto, only extra cost and fabrication.

That's the one I was thinking of, geocities sites seem to be blocked at work. :?

Does anyone know what all the different type of DHLA dellorto carbs are? Presumably the turbo ones and the pollution ones are different but how?

Not sure about the turbo ones..
Emission ones have the idle mixture screws in towers, also there are 4 (DHLA40C) or 6 (DHLA40E) big progression holes instead of 3 or 4 small ones. So progression from idle to main circuits is leaner. Not good for a competition motor. According to Des Hammill's Weber & Dellorto book.
However, I have used emission 40DHLA carbs on Minis with no problem.
One is on Spiro the Moke (owned by Mini Mad), with a tired 1152 motor last year? it still made 47HP ATW at the ausmini MRC dyno day.

Do you know what "DHLA 'F' " would be?

Quote from Hammill's book p40-
"C and E model Dellortos are universal performance non-emission models, while the F, G, H, L and N are emission carburettors".

You can still make them work...

I'd buy Hammill's book- "How to build and power tune weber & dellorto carburettors".
Mine came from www.pitstop.net.au but search the web for cheaper.

I have other Weber & Dellorto books but find this one best.

When I dynoed my 1412 stroker at GR's, we tried both a single HS6 on RE7" manifold, and the 45 Dellorto with 38mm chokes (on a ported & gas flowed Redline 3005 manifold) off my 1360.
The SU made 113.6HP at 6000, the Dellorto made 114 at 6500. So, a whole 0.4HP gain at max revs.
But, all the way up to 5500, the SU killed the Dellorto for power and torque...
As sgc said, I'd use an SU and save yourself the grief, I doubt there is any worthwhile HP gain from using a Dellorto for forced induction. And I'm a Dellorto lover... 8)

<edit> I bet you could sell the Dellorto 45 for about what an HIF44 would cost you, or more.

Pretty hard to argue with that.

I beleive the early ERA turo cars - the ones they used to scare the living sushi out of Japanese dealers - used a blow through webber, but they reverted to the Mtro Turbo SU.
