You mentioned about rubber gloves, and yes you are correct about them self destructing so easily with thinners, but by mistake at my work the other week we received a shipment of black rubber nitrile gloves (the name and brand escape me at the moment), and after using them to blend in four different colours, I again used them the next day with no issues at all.
I was gobsmacked with this, and a week later they still sit in my tool box ready for another use.
I will get the name and brand for everyone as they are the best that I have ever used.

Hey Mick, their not the Black Lightning ones are they? Ive used them are the same as you describe, can handle thinners and other chemicals real well...

Wobat I'm starting to agree that a glossary will be a good Idea. I wasn't sure because I made the mistake of thinking know one was really that interested, let alone interested enought want to read the original 11 page document I wrote and then cut down to what you see up there now. Its always the way, the bits you take out are the ones everyone wants

Aussiebrian, thanks. I don't do air brushing and never had, so I don't know what those guys do. But its starting to seem like a bit of a norm. I'll ask a few of my people if they've heard of it and if it checks out I'll put it in. Please forgive me for questioning but I don't want to lead people astray, I'm sure you understand.

Mick if you could find out that would be awesome. I think if I give my hands a good... 3 years, they might not look like an old mans anymore... so I for one would really appreciate it. You'd know yourself, when you spend all day every day with your hands covered in thinners, they end up stuffed. I have cracks in the back of my hands from it, kinda like an old ladies foot..

Anyway I'll stop putting people off their dinner.

I was going to also mention the prepsol trick in my original reply... Because I am an airbrush artist, it is common practice for me to use the prepsol to check the 'glossy' version of my artwork.... I havent ever used it to check straightness of panels... I guess because it dries too fast... I mainly rely on the high fill proceedure to ensure straightness of panels, and having a very thorough feel over the car I do like the idea.... I tend to also use a flourescent light tube to pass over the car... watching from an angle for when the line of light bends..... That though is more useful at the beginning for larger discrepancies.......

I realised after I posted Alex, that you did mention about wanting to keep it concise.... It is hard to know where to stop! It would be difficult to create a briefing of something that takes years to learn! I think this will be a brilliant how to topc when done

Originally I set out to write this to help you guys out. Because there was a need for some direction and I felt that I could offer some assistance to a group of people that seemed for the most part to be a top crowd.

However. It was pointed out to me today that a lot of you now view me as a "smart arse with to much time on his hands". So I am sorry to those of you who were looking forward to seeing the final version finished and posted up in the how to, But this "smart arse" just ran out of "time". I will not be finishing this project as I have better things to do with my time than assist nasty old pricks with nothing better to do with their "time".

If anyone has any problems please send me a PM. I'm not "chucking a tanty" I just grosely miss judged a lot of you, and decided that I have better things to do than sit around assisting people who would rather start a fight over a joke than offer up anything constructive.

Sorry I know you are not all like this, but it seems a lot of you are.

This thread and its intellectual content will remain up here for 3 days before I delete it. If I see any of its content or my work being repeated anywhere the sh1t will hit the fan. You've been warned.

In the short time you've been posting I've found your contributions to be extremely valuable, a credit to you. This paint howto is a case in point, and it's this sort of thing which makes Ausmini a great place to visit. Have you used other car forums? This place is like a nirvana in comparison, and it's because of people like you, Dr. Mini, David Rosenthal, Matt TheMiniMan, etc.

Yes there are d1ckheads here, you can't escape that.. the trick is to ignore them rather than give them satisfaction.

If you decide to depart, I know I will mourn the loss as I have lots to learn in the areas in which you have obvious expertise.
