Interesting reading here  I can't believe the marketing department lied to us

So with the benefit of 50 years - and advancements in engineering and materials - has anyone found a way to improve the gearbox design and rotate the A-series back to its original orientation, in a Mini?

I don't think that there would be any viable way of turning the box around the other way unless you use a chain drive instead of gears to reduce the flywheel effect of two big diameter primary gears.

Already designed a cool air box system:

- Two scoops behind grill
- Left and right 3" flexible pipes to carbys
- Carby box that feeds them cool air (cool air = less volume = more oxgen per unit volume)

Post pictures as soon as all constructed. :D

God...I've gotta get a life!

How hot is the air behind the grille?
How hot is the air near the carby when you are doing 100kph?
Is there a difference in temperature?
Is there a difference in air pressure?
Is adding extra weight to your car really going to increase performance?

Cool air is not a very good idea in winter or in moist foggy air. You may find that your carby will freeze up.

That one just looks like a simple cool air induction system. If it were me I'd fit a type of large funnel with the air filter at the base of the funnel then take a pipe up and onto the SU, reducing size right at the end.

I know their are a lot of people in both camps, one think the std set up is best others think the above description is better. I would like to see air temp and air pressure at the grill and at the su both at 0kmph through to 100kmph but seeing as no one has these figures or graphs (that I've seen yet) so IMO no one can claim either way is best  .

Personally I think their is power to be gained by a "cold air, ram induction" set up.

How are you going to prove it works? Because it is hard to get ram air on a dyno.

i only know the air temps of injected engines as they are very easy to read
driving the car there is no difference, no matter where the air is picked up. tested with K&N 57i kit with and without the tubes, factory filter case and homemade system with filter right behind the grill.

I,ve done it on my 1275 LS. I used a flexiblle inlet pipe off a Triumph 2500 aircleaner
from the grill to the 1.5 SU.Behind the grill I,ve sed the tapered end of a squirt bottle
& held it there with cable ties...... works a treat. MAW
