OK, that makes sense. Since I have only one joint, maybe it would work to glue the ends together first, put that joint in the bottom middle, and then work towards the top, so I'm not pulling against the glued joint at the end when things seem to take more convincing...

No, its a bad idea imho to cut it to length first..especially since you don't know what the rubber will want to do once it is in. You drag the rubber whether you like it or not as you go around the window getting it into place. It will want to move back somewhat. I usually have it pull back at least a centimeter overnight..

If you put the glass in, allow it to settle overnight and then cut the end as described above, you can be sure of a really solid joint. As you poke the ends in with the extra overlap, you can apply sealant if you wish, but it shouldn't be needed as it will be a strong compression join.

On a side note, when I put my front window in last December, I pushed the rubber around from the bottom center, and around the top to finish at the bottom left corner. This bunched the rubber up ever so slightly slightly and cause the lip to bulge outwards in a gap on the front of the window...not an entirely good result.....But still I didn't think it was worth pulling out.

11 months later the gap has completely disappeared as the rubber settled in further. It really never stops moving, or wanting to move at least...

Sorry, to be more clear, the windows are already installed and I'm about to remove them and redo. The rubber was cut to fit already, so I'll be giving it a second go. I did leave extra, so I think I have the compression joint you speak of.

Thanks again for the help.

Oh, cheers.

Then yes, you would not want to apply any strain on the rubber joint.

I've been asked this a lot but I haven't yet answered it

I found it when random searches lead me to a Singaporean forum and the image...steal it if you wish, some server is getting a pounding from this image being downloaded I am sure...

Really try to get the one piece rubber, I know MiniKing (John) has them.

Glass always drops in from the outside of the car (not the inside)

Best to use a new seal and NOT reuse the old one. They are not the expensive and saves the tears before bedtime when it leaks water.

Best sealant is Butyl Mastic its a synthetic resin, butyl rubber based mastic which forms a smooth tough skin, but remains permanently plastic underneath.

What I did was, fit a new seal (just in case) I used sealant.

Installed rubber into flange, dropped glass into seal and worked around, then lifted the seal slightly away from the body flange and with a good gun, I applied the Butyl mastic between body and seal (from the outside). Waited a day or so, then installed the locking strip (special tool made from coat hangers and self gripping pliers). Waited another day and cut the locking strip about 2mm longer and forced into the seal.

Used NO glues.

Alright then...will try to get new rubber before I reinstall. Favorite glues to use on the loose sections of headlining?
