I ran Alfa GTV seats in mine for the last 7 years. Frames were crap- I made them out of Dexion slotted angle, bolted together. (they cost me nix- I used to work for Dexion..)

Every year I got it thru pink slip inspection, no problem. I don't think I'll have trouble with the Cobra either. :)

Anyhow.. apart from being a `competent welder', with ticket, I AM an engineer..

I'll worry about it when someone pings me- my new frame looks factory.. :P

OK read through all this, and have just gotten my hands on a pair of Daytona seats with the "approved" seat frames. After putting them in (sorry no pics) I have found that

1. The seat frame rear posts are about half way down the length of the base of the seat so it seems OK but I cant help thinking that they are gonna break.

2. The seat frames seem really high so the base of the seat is about 15cm above the cross member of the car so the seats feel even higher than the originals.

(apart from that they are way comfy good looking supportive feel safe seats)

Have I been given the right seat frames?

If they fit a Mini they are the right ones. I didn't like the look of 'em either so made my own.
`Some people' get them approved then just bolt the seats to the floor..

I put a roll cage in today. It's the type that sits outside the passenger compartment. The gti seats i have there foul the roll cage. I reckon there is some room to be gotten out of modifying the cross member. I will get it engineered but before I look it to doing it I thought I would ask if it's legal? Anybody?

Dunno about legal but the crossmember is the main strength in the floors. Some works cars had 2 for strength.
I'd be wary about cutting into it, unless you redesign the MOFO for more strength. Make it thicker, for starters...

I might look into this option down the track. I wanted the go cart feel and have ended up with the trucker feel...!
