The EMS is a Greddy e-Manage blue with an Greddy Profec E-01 to control boost and also expand the std e-Manage fuel maps. Its simple, and relatively inexpensive.

Matt - yes you are lazy, but then you knew that. And of course, you prioritise better than anyone I have ever met - surfing always comes first!! I wish I could prioritise like you. I haven't been lazy, just side-tracked. Between holidays, house maintenance, other peoples subframes and the '56 F100 that I bought I have been time poor. But, I really do need to finish it as it goes off to get painted soon.

I cant do the door gap with the plasticine, because the doors arent on the car - disassembled for painting! But if we have between 15-20mm that would be heaps.

Simon - thanks for the defence, you make a great point man!! Also thanks for the door gap info. '77 thanks to you for your input too!

I am not going camping this weekend, nor am I going to the Caravan and Camping show. The Lions arent playing and all I have to do to the Effie is pull the Y-block out and put it on the engine stand, so I guess I should have a couple of free hours to put into El Gato (unless of course the wife has other plans)

I am overwhelmed by your enthusiasm for the Effie - I take it you are serious?? I have wanted to do a '56 F-truck ever since I was about 14, and only ever a '56 (I would do a '55 if a '56 wasnt available). I think they look so cool!

The cab and front sheetmetal are off the chassis at the moment so its not the most gorgeous thing to look at (except to me ) My brother and I are doing it together, in a kind of sibling bonding project that we never got to do when we were younger.

Not a lot is going to be done to it until The Cat is finished. I really want to get that finished and out into the public domain. So allow a good few months (say 6) before any thing is seriously started in anger, except for minor fiddling here and there and gathering of parts (buy up big while the Aussie $ is good).

I have big plans for the Effie, going to try and do all the sheet metal works myself, chassis fab and bodywork too. I want to make it cool old skool but with a modern custom flavour - kind of like vanilla icecream with Caramel topping

If the mods allow I will start a thread - but that may be against forum policy as it has nought to do with Mini's - except that it might tow the trailer one day!!

Anyway, let me know what you think, I have heaps of pics.

Other makes would be fine for it I think . Has the yellow one in the photo's had a roof chop or do they look like that originally ? How close is that to yours or what you want to do to yours ? I've got to admit , I have a soft spot for them as well , post plenty of puics when you get the chance (but don't stop on the cat) .

Well, I am amazed at the amount of Mini forumites that get a stump from an old Effie!

To me, a hot looking '56 gives me a mongrel so hard the cat couldnt scratch it!!

Anyway, since Ian says its fine to start a thread in other makes, so be it. I shall start a new thread directly.

Ian - no, I dont think that one has had a chop job done on it. If it has, its only about an inch or so. And yes, I am hoping mine will turn out something similar to that when its finished. Do you know they still press panels for them in the US!!!!

Gordo - I can get you a '55 F Truck for a very reasonable price, like cheap. PM me if you are interested (or anyone else for that matter)

Matt - I was originally looking at doing a 1UZFE with a Whipple - then my brother bought me to my senses when he said what a travesty that would be. Like putting a small block Chev in it. So then I was entertaining the idea of putting a 4.6 litre 'Cammer' motor in it - same as the SVO Mustang - but at USD$6,500 plus freight, taxes import duty and other charges for a long block only, forget it. So my brother, who know infinitely more about Fords and Chevs than I do, suggested we just use the Y-Block that came with it - so we are. Supercharged of course!

Hallsey - dont mind the tri-5 Chev's either. Saw one not so long ago with a grafted on Caddie front and it looked awesome! That might be next!

Also, I told you all a while ago I was looking at buying a mill and lathe so I could do some machining and turning and keep all that stuff in house and save dollars and time. Well here they are. Not quite what I was aiming for the first time around.

Ok,
I promised some progress shots and here goes. Trial fitted all the alloy pipework for the FMIC etc today, just to see how everything would go together after it was fully welded, and to see how good we really were. Other than a slight bit of interference with the oil cooler bracket touching the charge pipe to inlet manifold, it all went together rather well.

You have seen these shots before, but now without the masking tape holding them together. We need to make one or two brackets to hold the pipes on, and then fully polish them, but other than that, they are complete.

Pipe from alloy airbox to turbo, and from FMIC to IM:


Turbosmart BOV fitted and plumbed back into airbox:


Oil cooler fitted:


Oil cooler fits perfectly to the bonnet scoop seal:


Radiator installed:


As you can see, not a lot of room left, plumbing with big pipes, in this case 2.5" alloy piping, takes up a lot of room. Only thing left to do in the engine bay is the gear shifter linkage and water lines for the engine and heater, and then it will be time to disassemble for painting. A big thanks to Cameron (Cazmo) for doing all the alloy welding, great job Cam!
