Hi, was on the look out for a 1275 motor and gearbox and i just found one.
Would like to no the difference between 1275 block and the 1100s as i found this cheap approx ($400) is this a fair price you think and what the best way the trick the motor out :?: :?:

Howdy crabby,,

Lucky for you I'm one of those obsesive compulsive types that keep a record of everything that goes thru ebay :roll: :lol: ... based on recent prices about $500 is the going rate on ebay for a bare block with main caps.. but with out a doubt you will probably be able to get one cheaper else where..

I think $400 is pretty reasonable.

As far as tricking it up goes,, it is a matter of what you want out of it or what you intend on using the motor for (you know, a fast road car, rally, race ect, AC generator)

If you can give everyone a clue I'm sure you'll get about 50 hits with people all to happy to give you their opinions :D

I don't know what they are like I've never had any work done by them,, but otherwise I'm sure that the Tassie mini club (don't know what you guys call yourselves) could help too...

Unless you want to be brave and do your own motor (which is what I think you were getting at),,, it usually costs me about $2000 (including the gearbox) to build a fun street motor... Its a bit cheaper than paying someone else and you will have the satisfaction of being able to say "I did that, thats my motor"... if you've never done one before then it gets a bit hard,, maybe your local mini club might have some members that can help you out for a case of beer? :D

But if in doubt, ask a question, you might get multiple and different answers but, having multiple ideas is never a bad thing,, it can be,, but it can also give you room to make up your own mind with what makes sense to you.

motor hoping to work mild as i use it to travel to and from work lot of cornnering hopeing to have cam done ect any help will be great

Before you send it anywhere.. work out exactly what you want to do with it. And the trick here is to be brutally honest with yourself. About 10 years ago I let me ego get the better of me and had a full race stroked 1425 that I was sure I was going to use on the track/sprints! however all I ever did was fang it around town. Hey nothing wrong with that? WRONG, power came in at tons of revs and it was a bugger to drive. I killed it trying to get up my sisters very steep driveway when one wheel hit dirt and span like hell *diff pin broke* I then proceeded to drive it for 20kms to the garage :( thus spreading the love of the broken diff pin thoughout the oil pump.. welp more like an oil widget by the end of the 20kms. Broke me heart and kept me off mini's for near on 10 years.

Be honest with what you want, what your going to use it for and how much your prepared to pay for it.
Also, try not to get competitive with the numbers involved as its easy to get suck into bigger = better.
But other than all that GRATS! on your big bore purchase.

$400 I would say is a good price just depend on what is included. But anyway its a great base 8). Regarding to a cams I have one of GRs old one in my motor and also one of his New Cams going into my tickled 998 motor.
Give him a call on what you want out of your engine and how you want to drive it and he will have the best set up and Cam for you :wink:

thats a fair price then, you would most likely replace the clutch anyway and the pressure plate; im sure someone on here will have one lying around

:D I have a nice engine combo (tickled 1275cc) that will work well as a daily drive dont need to go over +60 thou (1330cc) unless it is required.

HI All
Just a point of intrest all thoes +.060 blocks that need boreing i have
72.5mm pistons which is .o14 tho bigger than +.060 so you have
another bore size to save the block then i have 73mm 73.5 and
74mm.
