My battery did already struggle previously and it has been left sitting there for almost 2 months now, so I'll charge it tonight and borrow a better set of leads to see how it goes.

Will connect the negative on the starter last :)

Battery charged, cranked it for awhile and no pressure. Took off oil pipe to the filter and put some oil into the oil ways just above the pressure release valve.

Cranked for 15 seconds and I now have pressure!!!! :D :D :D

Yep!

Thanks NAV for the tip :D
Being a first time re-builder this forum has made life easier.

Now to finish wiring up the fuel pump and the engine will be back in after next week when uni work is all out of the way. Can't wait! So excited!

Now at the same point as Derrick was.

New engine, been sitting for twelve months.
Turn over engine, spark plugs out 4 x 10 sec and no pressure. Have a clear plastic oil pressure line to gauge and no oil can be seen in the line.

Thinking next step should be to loosen oil line from block to filter and turn over and check for oil.

Not to sure on the reverse priming the oil pump. Do you remove the pressure relief valve and fill with oil and then turn the engine over in reverse?

Cheers

NO. LEAVE THE RELIEF VALVE IN.
undo banjo pipe. remove bolt. fill hole with oil.
turn motor backwards 1 turn or 2.
fill with oil again.
refit banjo bolt, leave slightly loose.
crank motor.
stop when you get oil leak at banjo.
retighten bolt, crank to get pressure up.

OK - thanks Doc. Just the oil pipe to to the filter. Will try again tomorrow. Now if only I could get the air out of the brakes I would be set.
