Never seen one of these before. If it sits on the rain channel when the vehicle is parked it obviously comes from an era when people were more trustworthy. I reckon it would be better hooked over the door window glass which is then wound up so it couldn't be removed. I guess it's meant to illuminate the car so as to stop someone crashing into it, much like the parking lights on some European cars. How you start the car in the morning when the battery's been drained is not explained.

By the look of it I'd say it sits on the gutter and in the door jamb, so can only be removed whent the door is open.
Isn't is just a high indicator and not so much a 'leave on when car is off' thing?

Its a parking light. In the UK in the old days it was illegal to leave a car parked in the street without park lights on. You had to have a red light visible from the rear and a white light at the front, marking the outside edge of the car (i.e. the side furthest from the curb). You could just leave your park lights on (hey thats why they are called that!) but your battery would go flat with 4 lights on all the time, so these little things were sold that usually clipped over the edge of the door or window glass and hung on the side of the car. In the days before cigarette lighter sockets became the defacto standard for 12V plugs in cars you wired in a little 2 pin socket to the dash and plugged it in when you parked.

I want one, the way some people(filthy rotten, no lawn mowing, garbage in the street leaving, car scratching, police waking me at 3 in the morning, fantastic lovely neighbour)in my street drive and park there cars, it could well come in handy.

p.s. does any one want to swap houses? I have some great neighbours. :D
