He he he ... 2nd question for the long time owners , do you consider your mini to be somehow "alive" and have a personality , if so , what type of personality is it ?

The sports850 is definitely alive and it's personality is something along the lines of a middle aged woman ....

Bought mine when I was 14, in 1998. Paid $475 for it - I don't wanna know how much I've spent on it since. I've bought & sold about 11 other cars in the meantime, during that time it's slowly evolved from a rusty non runner into a very tidy and orginal classic!

When bought (unreg'd, had to trailer it home):

11 and a half years later, at Minis At The Mill 2009:

Drove brilliantly up and back, no dramas at all, better than I expected on the freeway too! As for the question about cars having souls, I'll just say that I know I would never be able to sell it now, and would probably cry if something bad ever happened to it - so many memories!

Does this mean you are in the dog house at the moment Jon (good to see you posting again after your eye problem , all sorted now ?) ?

Nahh , it is very proper about the times it will allow itself to be driven hard , never late at night and always at respectable hours . When I first bought it , it had an AM radio in it and all the way to Goulburn and wherever I went after that it only seemed to pick up male 1960's singers clearly . It used to annoy the hell out of me , nothing was clearer than 60's music .

Only 6 years....

However, that is 30% of my life, which I reckons not too bad.

Current 850 for 19 years, never driven it, i have used wheels, brakes & engine, just not in this car. there have been others in between, but in the end as someone once said, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!!!
As for the other question?
They only have the soul that you put into them 8)
