Fixed 4myego's Cooper S rear end crabbing after a suspension shop told him can't fix, go away...
Then we just had to go for a pie run to PITS via Berowra Waters ferry.

Been a busy day today :D

Trailered a mate's Lancia Fulvia Zagato to Bendigo for panel & paint work. Whoever invented ratchet straps, you're a bloody legend.

Picked up a set of the Chinese Maniflow LCB copies from NMP last week, gave them a squirt of silver VHT 1000ºC paint tonight to keep the rust monster at bay.

Pulled the carbs, intake and exhaust off the Mini and trial fitted the LCBs.. they went on easy as pie, no messing around whatsoever. These cast flanges are a real piece of work, much much nicer than the welded plate of the genuine Maniflows 8)

While it was accessible, gave the back of the engine a squirt with Export Degreaser -- geez, how good is this stuff!? I reckon I could clean the back of the engine using the spray can alone without rinsing, it just eats the grease alive! Will hit it with the pressure cleaner tomorrow and it'll look like new :)

took the 1098 crank to GR's to balance it. Don't need to touch it as its perfect. Also Drmini lightened a fly wheel for me and we attached that with back plate and they were perfectly balanced also..Score 8)
Took the old pistons off the the rods and weighed them and they are within 7 grams off each other which is pretty dam good but they are going to be evened up just to make them perfect also.
Just waiting for GR to bore and hone to +40 and and we start rebuilding it

Hit the engine with the pressure cleaner... wow, it looks good! Export Degreaser, my new favourite spray-in-a-can :) Shame all the paint is flaking off now though :(

Measured the length needed for the exhaust with the new LCBs, cut the old pipe to length and fitted it up. Bastard of a job lying on your back in the concrete dust trying to wiggle the new pipe into the slip joints.. gotta get me a hoist in my next garage!

Gave the carbs a kero bath while they were off, then put everything back together and baked the VHT per the instructions. Then off for a test drive...

.. and WOW!! Must be 5 horses in these extractors at least over the old Perry 3-1's, it's loads faster everywhere over 2000 RPM and pulls hard all the way to the point where I chickened out at 5500. And oh, what a noise!!! 8)

Looking forward to finding out what she makes at the dyno day on the 22nd :D

also cleaned the gearbox and block today. Will be cleaning and reassembling the power unit during the week. GR will be short of cups of tea as he will be honing the block for me.

Last week-backed into it with my work ute, swore just a little (!) bit and took it to the panel shop!!

Sooo so mad at myself.

Of course it was my week off and i had plans to do bits and pieces on it, as well as enjoy cruising around in it.....so to cheer myself up i did some measurements and made an air box for the weber to shut it up a bit...

Picked it up from the panel shop Saturday, repair still in primer, fitted air box to try it- seems to work ok, very little induction noise at 100 kmh on cruise, but still has that nice weber sound when you put your foot into it. Will take it off and make it look nice, car goes back to panel shop tomorrow for paint on repair.

Will dyno it with and without box to check for power loss, but i am pretty confident it won't make a difference. Am also going to make a "quick fit" clip on snorkel for air box to make it extra quiet for longer trips-i built this car to drive and enjoy on the road as well as the track, and i also like the company of my wife sometimes!

Did i mention i was mad at myself for backing into it!!!

Yesterday I picked up our car from Mini King.....has been there for a week or so getting some gearbox work done. Gearbox is now all reconned and nice and new.
:D
Still trying to find source of noise when under load :x so today I'll be sourcing some uni joints for the Hardy Spicers and hopefully when they are fitted all will be good. Also fitted new Voltage Stabiliser from Wombat and now my instruments read somewhat correctly.
