You know the ones, the handles on the passenger side of the top edge of a Moke.

How are these fitted? Were they standard on some models?
Nutserted to the panel they are bolted to?
I'd like to add some to my Moke... especially when the stroker motor finds its way into it, and after a suggestion by a passenger on the weekend.

Oh sh1t bottoms up here I go,,,

ok they were fitted standard to some models and the milltary ones had them fitted front and rear standard... I know that the late model ""gal"" body mokes had them facorty,, but I can't remember fo a fact about any other model and I'm not about to go there... and as for fastening, the factory ones were a welded nut in the side box...

Oh and yes willy, my mokes have copper head gaskets and yeah they are running,,, since you bought it up and all in the other thread. (jokes people I'm trying to lighten it up a little in here)

G'day Will- They are crap handles as you say-you are always hooking or kicking them as you get in and out.
The nuts are welded into the panel,sometimes the nuts are missing,or have been pushed thru.
I'm not going to re- fit the handles,but I've ordered better "wrap-around"seats instead. Hopefully they will hold the driver and the passenger in the Moke

Most Mokes had them originally but everyone takes them off because they are in the way. They are a literal "pain in the arse" when you are getting in or out.

I removed mine as they made life difficult for a bargearse like me. With the hamock seats you get held in fine.

The tombstones let you move around more and give you the feeling of pending doom.

Hey Will-The seat moulds arrived today-now to trial fit them,then off to the trimmers.

I've always called them panic handles or Jesus handles (no offense to Christian religious types, just that going around a corner fast in a Moke the passenger usually yells "Jesus" or words to that effect) and yes, sometimes Sh*t Grips.

OK, for all you pussies who hurt yourself on them getting in and out (just a light-hearted dig) I've had them on my Moke for ever and I wouldn't get rid of them. Passengers always use them when I drive (does that say something about my driving). Getting in and out is something you just get used to. My wife or kids never complain about them because they are so used to getting in and out around them.

Yes, they were standard on all Australian-built Mokes, but could be a delete-option, right from 1966. I have plenty of advertising material, brochures, photos from the early days showing the handles attached.

Some export models with rear seats fitted, and Army spec Mokes, had three grab handles fitted as standard. Captive nuts should be fitted at the rear of most (all?) Moke bodies to facilitate this.

captive nut, not welded, somtimes they do get pushed out as someone mentioned.... I have had them on all three of my mokes and never had any problems passengers getting in and out.. Seats look good, But cloth seats in a mokes doesnt make much sence to me..

Here is my new trim not quite as body hugging, Which will prob be needed with my bigbore thats in it.. I will find out tonight when i pick it up from being tune..

They are from Westfield Kit Car parts-Normally fitted to open wheelers. You pay between $185.00 to $220.00 for the seats moulds,then get your local trimmer to do his work on them.
I chose for the local Westfield trimmer to cover these,as I got the same hard wearing outdoor weather cloth trim as the open wheeler......because this Moke will always be topless
