lots & lots of needles avaliable to sort--> tune lots & lots of different engine configurations

what`s your engine build??? & maybe we can suggest something close as a starting point for you

Its a 1098cc with 80thou bore, 202 head with 40thou skimmed, a cam (not sure what exactly but GR put it in so im guessing its one of his) um yeh thats about all i know. im not sure if the valves have been enlarged. Hope this helps.

I had an ABX needle in it but that was to rich. GR gave me a few options but i cant find the piece of paper i wrote them on and wont get a chance to give him a ring

For what it's worth, the twin 1 1/2" SU's fitted to SPO41 Cooper S's for NSW Police used Blue springs and BG needles. Only other engine mods were a C/AEA731/800 rally camshaft, modified distributor, mild head porting, ST valve springs and Ramflo air cleaners.

Ive just been having a look and would one of these needles do the job?

ADS, AAY, ABP, ABN, ABJ or AAA.

I saw this on a website which made me wonder if a AAA would work considering this would be similar to what i have.

1150cc (+060") + HS4 + 9.7:1 + LCB/STE + OSVhead = AAA needle

it says tho the needle is to lean on idle.

Thanks Blake

But they went better with CP4 needles. It is documented that the originals needles were a wrong choice.
Many people have found #6 needles to work better again.
Note, we are both talking twin HS4s here, but it's worth a shot in a single HS4 with sports filter.

Doc - do you know where it was documented? I'd like to update the SPO information with what really happened if I can.

I've seen it mentioned in print but can't remember where.
Talk to John Smidt at Mini King, or Greg Brown at Karcraft.

ATF - Automatic Transmiition Fluid I'v used it for a long time ad I'd say 80 % of people use it on here

Is the ATF just any kind?

Is the sewing machine oil different to the handy oil you can get?

The sewing machine oil is just light grade machine oil pretty much the same as the handy oil, ATF comes in a couple of different grades but more to do with what additives are in it the weight is pretty much the same on them

just to throw another one in is compressor oil which is a hydaulic fluid but not as easy to get as the others or try one of your mates that may have a new car that runs 5w/20 and borrow a cap full
