Yes but it was Paul Gulson. That alone would have to be worth 15mph.
It would be possible to do 140 or more on the track. You just need a more aerodynamic car in front of you. I got over 100 on the F4 in my 1275LS with a Toyota in front of me! The fun ended when he changed lanes and I lost 10mph.
The fastest bit at Amaroo in my Holden was around the back through Mazda corner. I am glad they moved the dirt bank in the late 80s. I tried to move the dirt bank in 81 with my first Morris.

With your high regard for Paul and rotaries you must of really liked the rotary powered mini he built

There is some bloke in UK who was an aero engineer I think. He moved the lights back in the guards and put flush perspex fairings over them a la E type. I think he may also have modded the rear of the bonnet..
The Cd numbers were crunched in a wind tunnel and it did work, it gained speed but I dunno how much. there was a writeup in MINI or Miniworld a few years back.

Like the 'Ridgeway Sports Conversion'?

If you want to know how fast a Mini can go ask Don Racine of Mini Mania.

He set some sort of land speed record in one a few years ago at Bonneville.

Don't know what class /specs etc.

Cheers, Ian

That one had the same type of Supercharger kit that Link sells fitted to it , was a very tidy car but I can't remember what it did in the end .

As well as the Ridgeway version there was another one that looked smoother by Sebring , it had fairings for the mini lights (very E typeish actually) as well , looked much better than the ridgeway one

That's ground effects... and it's more to do with increasing downforce than lowering drag. Although, directing the air away from the parachute that is the rear beaver is bound to help your top speed.

I've been pondering it lately and it would be interesting to see the results of testing on a car fitted and not fitted.

Many of the UK mini drag racers use rear diffusers to reduce drag and lift,
win - win

I was looking at something a little less DTM, though. :)

Maybe a small venturi out the exhaust cutout, with a similar cutout on the opposite side too. Then have then exhaust come out the center.

Something like this would be rather cool though. :)

Yes and no, Cush. If it has a diffuser at the back, or a venturi, then it's ground effects. If it's just making the underside of your car smooth, it's reducing drag. Which, if you look at the superminis built for economy, is something the manufacturers bother doing... So it might make some difference. Maybe enough to go from 101g/CO2 down to 99g/CO2, changing European/UK tax brackets... I think the old Audi A2 (the aluminium thing) had a smooth underbody and it closed the radiators at speed...
