Hey all, I'm down to the last source of smell from my car :D

When I'm at highway speeds, or I give the engine a bootful of gas, I can smell petrol (I think). Looking in the engine bay afterward, the top of the carb float is wet with petrol. What's going on here?

Also, if I try to move the float by hand, it can turn with about 1-2mm of play with respect to the carb body. Is this normal?

Cheers!

hg.

Obviously your needle valve in the float chamber lid isn't sealing properly.
I would fit a new one. Check float level when you do this.
The float chamber is rubber mounted on most HS series SUs, so yes you can move it about by hand. It should sit vertical.

Ok, does this require removing the carby from the car?
