Hi All,
I have a head gasket supplied as part of a kit that is not marked front or up or anything.
Only thing is the part number 2-2009F.
It is going on a stock 1100.
The gasket appears to be in two pieces.
One side appears to be a thick gasket type material which is silver or aluminium in colour. This appears to have a slight dimple type finish.
The other looks like it could be thin aluminium, which is rolled around the cylinder holes to give a “firing ring”.
I also read somewhere that the gaskets have two or three head stud holes that are slightly smaller and used to locate the gasket.
If I put the part number up, the stud hole adjacent to the push rod holes for number 1 is smaller (closest to the oil supply gallery), and the stud hole between cylinders 3 & 4 is smaller.
Which way up should it go?

If it is not marked as you say, it would normally be part number up. It really shouldn't matter, just make sure that no holes are covered. Check it against your block and head.

This sounds exactly like the head gasked I had that failed miserably. It didn't seal properly even after re torquing the head.

I have an ACL Monotorque on order. $37 is cheap really for piece of mind as the last one on my van sealed very well and was only torqued up once.

Check with others here if you like, but the name 'mono-torque' is a bit of a miss-nomer, I'd suggest at least re-checking the touque. Yes they are a good gasket.

Before replacing any gasket, in particular a head gasket, it is a good idea to find out why it failed in the first place. 'Blown' head gaskets are not often a failure of the gasket itself, but the result of another problem. Just a thought.

I understand what you're saying here. Just quoting my experience with a gasket that may not be the same as the one mentioned above.

Anyone who wants to know what gasket I used please ask me via pm.
