Yes its that time again

I want to find out what the people of ausmini think about gearboxes

so what type of gearbox do you have in your car?
What do you think of it?
What diff ratio do you use?

and has anyone tried or have used a 5 speed mini box ?

Thanks
:D

Mk2 Cooper S remote box, Hardy Spicer U/Js, 3.647:1 diff in my 1360.

My 1412 stroker motor is on a rodchange box with new S gears and a 3.44 diff. However I'm about to stick it all into a remote box, with Hardy Spicer outputs. So it will drop into my car as a spare, if needed.

Just one that doesn't pop out of gear everytime you go below 2000rpm suits me just fine :P

When it comes to unis, Doc, is there any reason you've stuck with the Hardy Spicers over the others? Is it just convenience or is it more than that?

Mark 1 S 3 synchro & std 3,44 dif.

Treat it like your girlfriend. Be kind and service regularly.

And it will give you years of pleasure with those sweet ratios.

Nothing wrong with pot joints, but-
My car(1360 motor)already runs a transplanted GT front subby, complete with hydro bags, S/GT brakes, gearbox & driveshafts.

I built the 1412 stroker with pot joints to suit the van, but the bodywork's not started, and I have enough Hardy Spicer bits to use S driveshafts and Hardy Spicer U'Js anyway if and when I do build it.
In the meantime, I will have a spare 1412 motor & S box that can go in mine
if needs be.

Std 850 with that lovely long gearlever. 8)

Mk 1 S 3 synchro & 3.4 diff is my 2nd choice or a S/C set with a 3.7 diff
Mini K & Mk 2 S are also good but not as strong as a 3 syc. :D

Rod change gearboxs are good when there new but that rod change set up is too poo poo for any serious work. :(

Rubber unis are ok for a std car but dont last long once you hot up the motor, Hardy spicer steel unis are my choice but a good set of pot joints are just as strong, A+ 1275 pot joints are bigger & stronger than std Leyland mini pot joints.
