Hey guys im Devin from Adelaide.
Im 17 and drive a 76 mini clubman 998cc. I bought it as my first car just before i got my p's and love it.

I'm starting a mechanics apprenticeship when i finish year 12 next year and i cant wait to lean how to do a few things on my car myself cause im a bit noob atm :) I get most of my stuff done cheap by my uncle anyway for now.

Saving up this summer to have it sprayed and im currently searching for a 1275 engine and gear box to rebuild as a 1360cc.

Ill probably be asking some dumb questions im sure but i hope to learn.
Cya all round.

Hi Devin,

You will learn plenty about old school mechanics by working on your mini and will end up with much more knowledge than the usual apprentice!. I have heard story's of 4th year apprentices that don't even know how to set points!

Good luck with your apprenticeship

Cheers, Nick

Hi All,

I grew up with Minis and Morris's, Dad worked at the Factory in Sydney in the 60's and 70,s (in the design/drawing office) he helped design the windups in the Aussie Mini among other things and worked there right up to the P76 and the closure of the Alexandria Plant.

We had Morris's in the Family. Dad had a couple of Minimatics. We swapped one over to manual and I used it for a while. I also had a Morris 1500 OHC 5 speed which was a cool car. Very underrated.

In the late 80's I had a 1275LS for a few years, actually it was the forth last built (had the plaque on the dash) ....I must put a post up to see if it's still around.

Just recently got a Mk1 Cooper S and I'm reliving my youth (mid life crisis?)

Welcome Phil...nothing wrong with reliving a few things...especially if you do it better than last time!!

Have a look at The Mini Experience forum on here...Watto might be quite interested in some of your stories/photos etc...Cheers, Mick

Hi, I'm Michael from all over QLD (though my Mini currently lives in New Farm).

I have a very stock 1098 Clubman van finished in BMW 2002 orange that I've owned for a year.

Always wanted a Mini, just had to buy some sensible cars first (also have an AW11 MR2 and Skoda Octavia RS).

Now I just need to chase down Matt, to supply some go-fast and stop...

GDay all,

Well, im no stranger to online forums, so I thought I would try and find one to learn a bit more about the mini I just bought!

Id been saving for a better car, after getting my first real 9-5 job after finishing my degree (with honours). I was thinking Commodore for the room and fuel economy, but after a few weeks Id had enough of looking at hoon cars, when I remembered a mini I liked the look of a few weeks back.

Went and looked at him a couple of times, and no rust in all the classic spots, I liked the interior, original books, etc. etc. So I took the old man along and had two test drives and I was sold! :P Ive been a fan since I was little, so now I actually live the dream!

Here is a few pictures! I believe he is a 1974 Mini Leyland. Its my daily drive, and he turns alot of heads. :D Alot more than a commodore would. Pfft. What was I thinking?

First issue was the throttle cable has gone, but going to get under him tomorrow morning. I want to adjust the brakes also, they are a bit soft. Is this common for a car thats gone from a garage to daily drive?

Introducing "willy"

Ello all,

Been lurking on and off for a long time. The collection stands at 3 minis and an 1100, all of which are in various states of dis-assembly :!: Funny how one daily driver seems to become 4 projects! Christmas should see work start again in earnest on the 1100 after a long hiatus.

cheers

Kevin

Welcome mate - nice looking unit u got there.
Adjusting the brakes all round should bring your pedal up & reduce travel, but if still spongy, your hydraulics may need attention. Try a brake bleed first. No harm in refilling with fresh fluid either.

Well, replaced the throttle cable no problem. Bled the brakes also, and thats brought it up alot. Much better infact. Cheers for the tips! :D

Hey guys and gals, Im Andrew from Cairns. Have a 1970 Mini K. I've been doing modifications on the mini for a while now. One day it will get back on the road, I have figured not to set a deadline for completion, rather just to get it done as it happens. I suppose this is the best way aswell so no corners will be cut and I should end up with a quality car at the end of it all.
The Mini K has recently come off the rotisserie and is on stands awaiting some work to be done on the front of the car. I have big plans for my mini and so far I am sticking with them, not just dreaming, they are actually happening!
I look forward to chatting to you guys. Is there a mini k register on here?
