Diahatsu marine engine, just a copy of a Rolls Royce marine engine, but with japanese reliability not pommy :)
What turbo's are they running BBC [brown bovari] or napier

Brown Boveri. I'll have a look I might have a pic.

When I was working in the Philippines some years ago, one of the things I had to do was to find out why the Generators would stall before getting anywhere near full power output. They were Rolls Royce DV8's.

In the town that I was working in, I saw nearly every day this ute running around with the Roll Royce symbol on the door, but it was always a little too far away to get the phone number. One day when I went to lunch, there it was! Great, I'll get the phone number and maybe they can help with parts. As I got closer, yeap, it had the Rolls Royce symbol, but the name under it was 'Robust Rocks'. These guys were from the local Quarrie, but I really think they had Roll Royce summed up.

The short of it with the Generators.....well, I used to see the guys on site in the morning, before starting the generators draining about 20 to 25 litres from the sump and putting it in the fuel - dam things had no rings left. They were a pile of crap.

This is the only pic I have of the turbo (not the best);-

MMMMM my most favourite engine . blackstone ezsl 8.[or could be exsl 8 because of the napier turbo] interesting that they have the marine engine doors on them. the stationary engines have 8 smaller doors with little flaps to get to the fuel pump racks.

If anyone said the poms could never build a engine [apart from a mini] then these are living proof.

have you had much to do with the blackstones

Mmmm,,,,,,Dave, these engines are dinasours! Not to say that there's anything wrong with them. I haven't had a much 'hands on' on these, but they don't like the hotter weather too much, they need a BIG heat exchanger and it must be in first class condition. I do beleive that they are quite popular on fishing trollers because of there on going reliability. I have found that they will easily put out much more than their rated HP (170 - 180%) and for quite extended periods.

I also know of another Blackstone - not an ezsl8 - (in a hospital) that they are are trying their level best to reck because they don't like it (high maintenance) and it really drinks the diesel. For it's given output, it is HUGE.

What experience have you had with the Diahatsu and Blackstones?
