That is a shame . I wonder out of the ten that had the plaques fitted , how many survive today ? I know the last one is in the Museum in Adelaide , third last is owned by friends of mine and has been in their family since new , what about the rest ?

The 9th last one.

http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... rrickville

I test drove the car back then, some bits where in quite good nick, but it had been in an accident and it hadn't been properly repaired. It was eventually sold. 8)

As an aside, how much fun was it in the days when you could post replies in For Sale....

I was interested when I first saw this thread.

While researching the 1275 LS (TME Issue 16) I came across the 5th last, 3rd last, 2nd last and last built.

I was keen to see info on the 4th last appear here, but disappointed to hear of its untimely end.

how good would it have been to get all of the last 5 built together in Adelaide for a photo shoot. Yes, I know, dream on Watto, but anything is possible, except if one of the cars no longer exists.

Shame.

Cheers,
Watto.

It could be doable, theres still a chance that the burnt wreck might not have been crushed. Just hope its in a field somewhere.

Just not sure how verifiable it would be though , does anyone have the numbers from it as I'm not sure if the last 10 were sequentially numbered (Watto ???) ?

No, the last 10 were not sequentially numbered (see Issue 16 of The Mini Experience for details).

5th last: chassis 105280
3rd last: chassis 105283
2nd last: chassis 105287

Last one built, in Birdwood: chassis 105303

As I said in the magazine, there may even be another "last built: as the one in Birdwood did not have the plaque stating it was last one (as far as I can recall) and the plaques on the others state: "This Mini 1275 LS chassis No. 105... was the nth last produced for sale in Australia 26-10-78

The emphasis on built for sale, whereas the last built was not intended for sale.

Also, as the numbers are not sequential and the plaque reads that it is the nth last 1275 LS chassis, then there are clearly other cars built later that were not 1275 LS. They could have been Mini S, LS (998) or even plain old ordinary Minis.

Nobody seems to know.

So, there could others out there somewhere. It all comes down to the chassis numbers, as there are some 16 cars between the 2nd last and the last.

Cheers,
Watto.[/b]

Thank's Watto , I thought I had read they weren't in sequence but couldn't find where (hadn't got up to Issue 10 in the search yet , keep getting sidetracked in the earlier issues  ) .

I think they would have rusted or fallen to bits before they could have been crashed

Harsh guys, harsh,,,

Its not the cars fault. I'd compare it to one of those kids born with defects because Daddy used to beat up mummy while she was preggers.

We all know that the workers pee'd in the paint cos they were pissed about their pending retrenchment. They just need a little more love than most minis. Thats all.

I told you before that the workers didn't get retrenched. So cut the bullshit.

We both know that they pee'd in the paint Morris.

And if I remember correctly, you tried to convince me that the Land Rover was their bread and butter product and that the mini was just biskets and tea, and that they weren't worried because there were plenty of land rovers to build...

And then watto got involved and confirmed that the MINI was their bread and butter, not the land rover, and that they did pee in the paint.

Sorry, but I'm not going to argue with the facts. The fact is that they pee'd in the paint. :)

Did the paint smell funny? :)

For the record, the 9th last car was a hi-ho silver 1275LS.
