Related to this is our new law that the cops can say you car is TOO LOUD (exhaust or stereo etc), without even testing it.

yeah but they cannot prove it, so it must be tested. I know it is a pain if they defect you and you have to go and get it tested, but there is no other way to prove it.

According to mickmini's link under ADR download has a list of compliances for a vehicle e.g.
1/00 Reversing lamps
2/00 Side door latches & hinges
3/02 Seats and seat anchorages
4/02 Seat belts
5/02 Anchorages for seat belts and child restraints
5/03 Anchorages for seat belts
6/00 Direction indicator lamps
7/00 Hydraulic brake hoses
8/01 Safety glazing material
(9) Not yet allocated in 3rd edition
10/01 Steering column
11/00 Internal sun visor
12/00 Glare reduction in field of view
13/00 Installation of lighting & light-signalling devices on other than L-group vehicles
14/02 Rear vision mirrors
15/01 Demisting of windscreen
16/01 Windscreen wipers & washers
17/00 Fuel system
18/02 Instrumentation
19/02 Installation of lighting & light-signalling devices on L-group vehicles
20/00 Safety rims
21/00 Instrument panel
22/00 Head restraints
23/01 Passenger car tyres
24/02 Tyre & rim selection
25/02 Anti-theft lock
(26,27) Not allocated in 3rd edition
28/01 External noise of motor vehicles other than L-group of vehicles

I have only copied up to 28 as unlike the new vin/compliance plates. They leyland has what it is to comply with on the plate. Mine basically has 1 through to 28 listed individually.
Dont know if this helps anybody including me.
Cheers

minimark, just be aware that these are guidelines for NSW RTA registration, and do not necessarily apply to any other state. Having said that there are probably good advice in there for WA.

when you get pulled over and they tell you it's too loud, you shout:

"WHAT?! SORRY! I CAN'T HEAR YOU! " :)

or hehe

"I'M PARTIALLY DEAF AND I NEED IT TO BE THAT LOUD SO I KNOW THE CAR IS RUNNING"

All Leyland Mini’s are only required to meet 2nd Edition ADR’s for vehicle emissions where applicable..

Dates of introduction for the old PC category (now known as MA)

ADR 27 – 1/74
ADR27A – 7/76
ADR27B – 1/82

Only 3 reasons to reject a vehicle for ARD27A are -

1. The fuel cap is vented
2. The tank vents direct to atmosphere
3. The engine is not of the same specifications as an engine from a vehicle which is know to comply with the appropriate ARD or a more stringent standards or does not comply with any acceptable overseas standards.

Any later model engine must meet the applicable standard. Any EFI conversion must have the OEM pollution gear fitted and operational. Any model engine made after 01/011986 must meet ARD37/00 for 2nd edition ADR’s and 01/07/1988 for 3rd edition.

This information is for NSW RTA stds. Other States may well have a different interpretation of the above.

Just to reignite this thread the second edition adr's are available as a download from here: http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/ ... _adrs.aspx
From what I've been able to work out the only adr's you'd have to comply with are the ones released before the production/compliance date of your vehicle.
Correct me if I'm wrong brains trust.

Worst case if you have a Morris, BMCA or Leyland mini I'm fairly you only have to comply with wind edition as 3Rd edition didn't come out until 1988.

I'm doing my best to go through all of these and learn them back to front. Think of Me as the adr guru in the making lol.
I'm from QLD, aka the nanny state, so if it's legal in QLD it's almlost certainly legal in all other states and territories.
My main goal (other than learning the adr's) is to become QLD transport's newest and biggest pain in the backside.
I'll be calling them or emailing them at least once a week so if you live in QLD and want a question asked of the dept, pm me and I'll add it to my "pestering the dept" list

Sent using taptalk - probably from my garage....

So my English engines are now worth more.... because "they" can't tell what they are???

".....As far as i can remember the rule is that you can fit any engine that was an option for the model car, as long as all the same suspension and braking components are also fitted to that car, so this excludes any other manufacturers brakes (unless you get engineer certificate). So in theory, if there was not a 1275 model option available prior to 1965, then you would be unable to do this mod...."

1275s were available in Minis from around April 64.

Cheers, Ian

I'm pretty sure You'd need an engineer's cert for retractables and it'd depend what vehicle they came from as to which version if ADR they would have to comply with. I don't know when they came out to suit mini but version 2 ADR Cuts off at 1988 where version 3 comes in

Properly adjusted non retractable belts are safer than retractable ones anyway - less movement in event of an accident. Just take the extra time to adjust them properly.

I'm interested in whether my 1275 ex Jap rover conversion will be legal in a 73 van. The new ADRs state a more than 20% increase in capacity or power needs engineering now. I'm assuming they will get a roadside dyno to check this?

Likewise I'm considering a 360ci stroked to 408ci in my valiant, which originally came with a 318ci. Good luck testing capacity or power output with that one.

I suppose they could always ask British Leyland or Chrysler Australia how much power my cars should actually have.

Don't see much point in making rules that can't be enforced...

Many people (me included) have had retractables in their `pre-retractable ADR' Mini for 10 years or more.
Mine (1970) passed pink slip inspection with them every year, I think you guys all worry too much.. A Mini is a Mini is a Mini is.
Stop `counting rivets' and go drive your 1275 Minis...
