Many years ago there was great interest in fitting AMAL carburettors to Minis, Anyone remember that

From my days with Bultaco motorcycles -didn't they use an AMAL carbie?

Amals were used on nearly every British bike. My pair of Amal Monoblocs were for a Triumph 650 Bonneville I think. I used the Triumph 2-1 throttle sleeve thing to pull both cables from 1.

I assume the amals were used on a crossflow head where the carbs were mounted on the opposite side of the head to what is usual...i.e towards the front of the car ?

Could you use an airfilter with the amal carb set up or would it not fit under the bonnet ?

How about suing other motorcycle carbs... such as yamaha /suzuki,etc,on a crossflow.... looking at doing it using the ken elder head.

4 Amals were used on the Arden crossflow 8 port heads, yes they fitted under a Mini bonnet. But they only had wire gauze covers I think.

I had my two Amals on a 5 port head.
