If testing Pulsar dizzys on the bench I hope you are spinning them ANTI-clockwise, viewed from top.
They don't spark good the other way...

The star under the rotor that causes it to give sparks out, is steep cut one side and gradual the other. There is a number on the star, this must face upwards.
Spark happens when the steep side leaves the 2 polepieces.
Weak or probably no spark if you spin it the other way.

Hi Again everyone,
Little to report, except im dumb.

I was told that the car had a pulsar dizzwhen I got it so i just believed the PO. Turns out it doesn't. Took the dizz to an auto elec to get it checked out and was talking on the phone to him. I kept referring to it as pulsar/jap until he stopped me and was like "both these dizzy's have lucas written all overthem so im not sure what you are talking about!" Haa haa... funny but stupid!!

OK laughing at me is over. Question time.

It seems that my old dizzy is a lucas 65dm4

I am looking for a new module for this. I have seen that the njc10001 is said to be correct but mine looks different. I have some pics below so can someone with more brains than me let me know if im correct?

Module markings say
9 em ignition module

MY dizzy and module ( no vac adv and note plugs on the module)

I think I have a spare one of those modules here if you wish to borrow it 'till you get your new one. You need a battery with grunt too!!

Hey everyone,

Thanks to scott for offering up a spare module.
I ended up getting a brand new one from Josh at Miniimports. Thanks mate!

So I installed the module and put everything back in the car but still no dice.

Im getting 12 volts at positive, negative and in the middle of the coil at ign but turn the key and no spark

I check the the ohms ( i think thats the right word) and its reading 1700 on the coil to dizzy cap. Is that correct?
Any help would be great.

Are you getting power at the coil when you are cranking?
Cheers Pete

Sorry, the POS terminal on coil while you are cranking it.
I had a mini once that it had power to pos terminal with key on then when you cranked it the power to the pos would stop, hence no power no spark.
For the life of me I can't remember what the problem was, think it may have been ignition switch related.
Cheers Pete

Is the distributor turning when you crank the engine? Its highly unlikly but the timing chain could be broken or the gears stripped and the camshaft/distributor drive is not turning. - Also, is the centre contact in the distributor cap touching the rotor button? if not (due to a broken contact or incorrect rotor) you will have not spark. And finally, just to get you going again, change the distributor drive and fit a std points type distributor, then you can take your A+ distributor to a mini shop and get it looked at.

Hey Pete,

The pos is showing 10 - 12 whilst cranking. The centre seems to be pulsing from what I can tell on my multimeter.

Dizz is spinning anti clockwise. I will have a look and see if its touching. I pulled the coil to centre cable and tested it for spark earlier and no spark on the head bolts.

I took the dizzy to a shop and it had a blown module. I have replaced this and the fact that im getting pulse at the coil should mean that its doing its job yeah ( wasn't getting that before)?
